My wife and step daughter are traveling to Seattle to get my step daughter enrolled in the university. However they've had no luck in finding a reasonable hotel, Can any one from the area make any suggestions? Also I was informed she is looking for a one bedroom apt.
Thanks for any help!

Ken and Damon may have some more specific info, but as someone who has traveled to the area often before I lived here..

Get just a little out of the city, to the north, and get a few blocks away from I-5, and the rates drop. There are many many "local" hotels. They are in most cases nicer and more affordable than the "branded" hotels... accept for La Quinta, of which I have stayed at a few in the area, so I can recommend them. I found several affordable places near Lynnwood (although near I-5). I would center my search around the Alderwood Mall, but I'm not sure if that's maybe too far north for ya.

Anyway... don't fret. Affordable hotels are there, they just aren't easy to find.

Better off using google and centering on an area, and searching Hotel, then trying expedia or any of those.

Gary, is it UW she'll be attending? There are a bunch of apartment options right around the U if so. Some are more of a flat or studio, but there are somewhat affordable options. If she's going to UW, she'll probably want to be close to the school. If she doesn't mind a small drive, Lake City is pretty close, just a bit north of the U and on Lake Washington.

Miles pretty much hit it on the head though. Away from town South works as good as North too.

As for hotels, I like telling priceline I want a 3 star or above then put my own price in. Usually I start at $50, and if it doesn't work, I start going up in $5 increments. I've rarely had to go beyond $70. The last time I had family up, I had them at a 3 star doubletree here in Bellevue for $60/night. If 3 star doesn't work for an affordable price, knock it to 2.

One thing to remember is to stay away from any hotels on Hwy 99 (Also in spots called International Blvd, and Aurora Ave). They can get pretty seedy, especially on the parts of Aurora that are closest to the UW.

Its like Miles said. I try not to pull off of the interstate to buy gas - look for the Safeway about 2 miles in.

Thanks for the help guy's! My wife has been up since 7am, she awoke from some nightmare about living in a school bus, so naturally she woke me to tell me of her concerns! How's your day going? My stepdaughter will be attending UW, she is going for her Phd. in microbiology.
Once again, thanks for all your help. The people here really are the best! :D

My oldest is studying a similar field himself. He's at Boston U, but is looking to do post grad, and UW is on the list.

Good luck and happy travels.
