Looks like a good deal for a very clean basic USA deepbowl Ovation...$250.00 with 7 hours to go!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Ovation-Balladeer-1661-with-standard-ca...

Looks like a new seller, but heck even the most trusted sellers started at (0).

This is an early-mid 80's guitar. Ovation had some really beautiful wood in those years....

Auction says 1980. I don't think the Balladeer came with a cutaway in 1980. Maybe '84-'85ish? And no black backing on the headstock Logo?

Is it odd that it doesn't have a five-piece, skunk strip neck??

84-85 would be about right. And Ovation was phasing out the 5 piece neck on the less expensive models.

well, my 1711 does not have the 5 pc. neck...it's I believe a 1994? It definitely looks to be a deep bowl Balladeer to me, but I'm no expert either.

Hey maybe something is up...there is no listing for a 1661 Balladeer in the archives...maybe it's a matrix or something else?

I think I'll keep an eye on this one. I need a guitar to take to lessons instead of the 1681 or the UTE.

I've been jonesing for a cutaway anyway. Maybe this will work out all around.

Yes, Brad. It's not good form to have a nicer guitar than your guitar teacher.

The Ovation price list says the 1661 Balladeers were made in 82-84.

Mark,

I feel a little guilty, mostly because they can make sound SO MUCH better than I can. I've always been of the opinion of buying the best I can afford and buying only once, even if it is a stretch at the time. It doesn't hurt that I got a great deal on the 1681 and Al's best pricing on the UTE.

I pulled the 'ask forgivness later' routine on the UTE a last May and still suffer frostbite everytime I mention another aquisition to SWMBO. She has set the gauntlet though, "Make the guitars you own sound good and we'll talk". She doesn't understand the multiple guitar argument and the nuances of the different models, styles, shapes, colors, woods, necks,......

Mrs. Stonebobbo is the only one I know of that seems to appreciate the differences. Maybe she's just the only one who believes his BS. He has a nicer Porsche than me, too. I could go on and on, but I'd get depressed. (OK, there was just a hint of sarcasm there. I know I have it pretty good.)

There was a Custom Balladeer that sold for $125 a few hours ago. I was trying to get a guy in the office to buy it, but he missed it. When he told his wife about it, she said "we" already have a guitar, meaning the one he bought her for Christmas. I guess she didn't think he needed even one for himself. Some of us are very fortunate.

Yikes! Now here's a NOT-SO-GOOD Deal...anyone interested in a 1711, I could do you a whole lot better for the same price!

You're probably right ... it was the only way I was able to snag her. Fortunately, she still hasn't caught on (or maybe she has ... and totally has my number).
