new user so be gentle...
I have Balladeer 2771LX with OP-pro preamp. Had it a couple of years but only recently started playing it amplified. The output from the guitar seems very low. The mixing desk generally has to be set at much higher gain than for other guitars. I also suffer feedback problems (probably because of this). I dont have any other Ovations to compare this with but something isnt right. Anyone had the same problem? Basically unless I turn the guitar gain up to 3 quarters I get very little output. If anyone has any suggestions - they would be gratefully received. Cheers. |

Yes - I've replaced several new batteries. (The tuner works fine and battery low light etc). Everything seems fine....but the output from the guitar is much lower than other guitars into the same system. I am convinvced this is not normal. Unless one of you expert guys tells me that the op-pro does output at low gain? Thanks. |

I have a few OP-Pros...
I also have an OP-Pro Studio and an iDea guitar (also a VIP-5)...
Both the Studio and the iDea are louder than the Pro.
The VIP-5 is about the same as the Pro, depending on which image I am using.
The OP-Pro is much louder if you have the "Pre-EQ" up in the bypass position. |

I got to have the op-pro turned up to say 3 quarters to get any kind of level out to the desk...and then the desk input gain needs to be cranked way up. It always causes a few raised eyebrows. (and feedback problems). Is this what you have experienced? |

I play outside though a Roland CubeStreet battery amp.
Once I purchased an OP-Pro Studio preamp I discovered that it is louder than an OP-Pro.
Therefore I drop it in my guitars in place of the OP-Pro when I am taking them out.
I later discovered that the iDea is really loud on it's own.
So I will take the CC54i out with my little MicroCube.
Anyway, whenever I am using an OP-Pro, I usually have the pointer at one or two o'clock...
So yeah, that is about 2/3 or 3/4 of the way up.
Also... What I said about the EQ bypass button.
Are you competing with Electric Guitars? Are you using Acoustic amps?
If I try to run with the Roland set at the "Marshall" emulator it will feedback pretty easily.
(with either the Pro or the Studio)
But you are saying that the board has to be turned-up... Compared to What?
Are you playing with other Ovations? Or acoustics with other Preamps?
Or just electric guitars?
Everything is different, that is why you have a sound board... To balance it all out.
But like someone said on another thread... Those preamps will wear-out eventually.
It is just another solid-state piece of circuitry, stuff happens.
So if you have noticed a decline in performance, that is a possibility.
But if you are just comparing it to other guitars... Everything is different. |

Location: Sydney, Australia | If you're going straight to the PA you could try using the XLR output - using that I had the gain just a tad above 0 which equated with about 3/4 using the 1/4" output. |
