Can anyone remember anyone earlier? For me it has to be Jim Croce or Glenn Campbell. Thoughts?

Wasn't Byrd somewhat responsible for the name becoming "Ovation" when he said....."This guitar deserves an ovation".....?

I think Josh White was Ovation's first official artist endorsee....

Campbell was the man who put them on the map!...

Josh White was the guest performer at the official product launch of Ovation. If that makes him the first endorsee or not, I don't know. I think others including Byrd had their fingers in the mix leading up to that. Buffy was there pretty quick as well and Campbell came along about a year and a half later. Moody probably knows the actual date and what Glen was wearing. Dave

Jan 29, 1969. White leisure suit. Moody knows which guitar he used, too!

I have it (bringing to NW gathering), and I believe it says Josh was the first official endorser. I think it said Charlie first brought it to Byrd who liked it but didn't really play a steel string, and Byrd told Charlie to bring it to Josh.

Cat Stevens played both 6 and Twelve string balladeers and Ovation proudly promoted that fact.

Actually he used Legends then went to Folklores. I think the only 12 string I remembr him playing was a Pacemaker. Seems to have defected to Gibson J200's for his latest thing, but then it semms like the vast majority of the old endorsees are playing other brands now. I can think of maybe GC and Joan Armatrading who were endorsees in the 70's and are still using Ovation now.
