I see in the Ovation website that 1860 model is discontinued, but note that this one on the label has '1860V' actually written rather than printed. Still on the quest for the 'ultimate O' (for me) and enthused about learning the eccentricities. What does that 'V' stand for and why the handwritten model? Never seen that before (not that I've looked at THAT many labels....)

Until now I'd only ever referred to it as an 1860 Custom Balladeer. But I just dug up the original receipt and registration card and I see the music store where I bought it have written the model down as 1860-5. I never realised that before. Mine is black (see pics in my photo gallery if you're interested) and like John says, maybe it has something to do with the finish. That hand written label is weird too. I'll have to look a bit further into this.

The number 5 indicates Black. I'm assuming that the "V" is the Roman numeral for 5. I'm colour blind Oddball, but that 1860 on the bay definitely doesn't look black to me. I'm so far away from being an expert or even a mild authority but if you want to know anything about mine you can PM me and I'll help if I can.
