Joined: June 2008 Posts: 31 Location: alabama | Hi everyone, I've been poking around the site some and it really looks like a wonderful place to be...First of all, I must say I need some consoling, I sold my 312ce Taylor to get into this Ovation stuff. I ended up buying a cs257 and a cc48 at the same time tryin to feel my way in. However, after playin the cc48 for just a few hours, I've decided to return it for the cse44. I think the solid top and upgraded electronics would suit me much better for now. I do have a question though, and this may be crazy. I want to remove the eppaulets for a clean look. How do I go about that? Is this a ridiculous idea, as in, more trouble than it's worth? (I've seen the pic of the koa top with them removed and I love it) And if I decide to put them back on, how exactly would that be done? I greatly appreciate any help...

And I always thought the a CC48 was the same thing as a CS257 with a crappier pre-amp? [I am a fan of the OP30] I had a CC44 once upon a time. The CSE44 looks cool. It has a solid top and the OP30. I'm not the one to tell you how to get the epaulets off... I think that involves a heat-gun (or hair-dryer) and a plastic putty knife. I am not sure if they will come-off in one piece, they are multi-piece epaulets... And the real question is Why would you do that to a New guitar

Isn't that part of what make the Guitar and Ovation appearance wise?? You want a guitar with just a bunch of "Holes" in it for lack of a better way of saying it? I don't know, it doesn't make sense to me. I'm not judging you, just confused.

Have you seen any of the newer models with the inlaid epaulets? I think the solid top and upgraded electronics would suit me much better Always a good choice. Have you had the chance to play any of the USA made models???

I dig the epaulets, but if I was looking for something without them, I'd go with Old Man Arthur's recommendation and take a look at the Elite T's. Or as mentioned by Slipkid, check on the models with the inlaid epaulets...I have a 2778LX and love the looks of it. It's got inlaid epaulets that give it the distinguishing look, but it remains a smooth top. And, it's a great playing and sounding guitar.

Dave Anybody notice that somebody sold a Taylor for a couple of Celeb's and there's no comment regarding the sound difference? Oh, that's right, the Celebs probably sound better.... Jeff W's right. Get an Elite T....

May or may not come off in one piece. Customer service has replacements. 4) You will need to polish or buff out where the epi was removed. There may be small pits in the poly finish. I think they used Cyano glue for these. 5) The Koa T is packaged and ready to ship to CA! Koa T on Ebay 6) I have a 1778T I could make you a deal on! 7) It seems I have enlightened or infected another one!

Honestly, do what makes it yours and enjoy it! And take pictures, before during and after, for the next person who wants to do this. And welcome to the OFC!

Joined: June 2008 Posts: 31 Location: alabama | First of all, thanks to everyone for making me feel so welcome. To answer some of the repsonses on this post: Yes, it is Woody's fault that I want to do this, the koa top on ebay was what got me thinking. I wanted that guitar and was just too late! I didn't realize the elite t was that inexpenive, I suppose I just thought since it was USA made it would cost a lot more; and yes, I did play a USA model. I strummed one chord and had to put it down, it sounded so good I immediately wanted it but I'm not ready to spend that much just yet! Finally, the taylor did sound better than the celebs, but plugged in, the celeb gives it a run for it's money. But is the taylor worth the extra grand? Uh, no. Anyways, thanks to everyone for the interest and advice.
