A friend has a Std. Balladeer w/Op24 from the late 90's and he can't live w/o a tuner any more. I know the factory wants $200 for a new unit. My friend doesn't want to pay that much just to add a tuner. Anyone got one in your parts bin?

Good luck on that one... I had to buy a new one to put in the 1115. Nice amp though.

John,

maybe you'd show your friend this:

Korg AW-1 Tuner

I was always looking for O's and A's with a built in tuner since Karl (Charlie Ramon) showed me this tuner. It works perfect, even in loud environment because it gets it's signal from the vibration of the guitar through piezos (I hope I said that right) and not from the tone the guitar makes.

Since I have it I do not use the built-in tuners anymore, because it works much better.

Kurt,

Do you clip it on the headstock? Why would it be superior to an onboard tuner getting it's signal from the piezo in the bridge?

John, he can get a complete Optima system for $280 (or maybe he can find one used on ebay). That will not only give him a tuner, but a far superior preamp as well.

We know you can use a Dremel.

Paul,

yes, you can clip it on the headstock, soundholes, wherever.

And again, my bad english - sorry. I did not want to say that it is superior to built-in tuners when it comes to tuning quality.

But, for my purposes, it works better. I mostly play unplugged and do not have to worry if the akkus in my preamps are fully loaded (or for the VIP Preamp if I had a cable or dummy plug) or not.

And I noticed when tuning the 12 string UTE with the Op-Pro Preamp the Korg is much more accurate.

Since John said his friend does not want to spend that much money, this would be a reasonable prized solution, small, easy to use, that works great - and with all other guitars as well.

But, if he is only looking for a built-in solution - I'd agree with Waskel and get an Optima.

I agree with Kurt. My 12-string Adamas has the Optima with built-in tuner. But since I have the KORG AW-1 tuner I don't use the built-in one anymore. The KORG is much faster and more accurate. Best tuner I've ever had - but not a bargain. I guess it costs about $50 in the US.

Kurt and Karl, thanks for the heads up. I just ordered one today on the bay (around 50 bucks shipped). It seems like a nice unit and alot easier than trying to hold the other ones near enough to "hear" the guitar.

Jim,

I am sure you won't regret the purchase. Two of my acoustic only Ovations were a hassle to get in tune - and my Boss tuners - one of them costs around 130,00 USD - could not get the job done perfectly. With buying the Korg AW-1 - I would say these two guitars were in tune perfectly for the first time ever.

And these tuners are really "worthy", come in a nice case and look more expensive than they really are.

Tell us your experience - and, to bad Karl and me did not get a parcel of shares before we recommended them.

Kurt
