I am selling a 4861 solid-top Korean Balladeer, with case for $250. (OK, $295 with ship)
And people are buying Applauses for $249? (no case)
Yeah, they're new... But!
Go figure... |

I never said that ebay was an acurate benchmark. I just reported the results. I know, my remarks were not aimed at you. |

Of course it's not perfect. And the whole thing falls on its face for rare and collectible items such as Colins slothead. Any Adamas aficionado knows that that guitar is worth minimum $10k and will only escalate in value in the decades to come.
But I would wager to say that the vast majority of people who post here "what is a 19-whatever ballalegenlite worth" are asking for two reasons. One - they are ready to bid on an EBAY auction and want some re-assurance how much to bid. or Two - they are getting ready to place their guitar up for auction on EBAY and want some re-assurance about asking price.
Ebay is the worlds largest single shopping outlet. You simply can not ignore the short term pricing benchmarks that it establishes. At least that's the way I see it.

| Well I have four Adamas 1's right now. Here's the thing. If I wanted to liquidate these for what they should be worth I'd have had the money for the Slothead. Would I trade four Adamas 1's for the Slothead? Most likely not because I need more than one good working guitar all the time and I'd be a fool to use that slothead on weekends hacking up some cover material for the drunks. But if I wanted to go for it..... as the market stands now EBAY tells me where I once could get at the very least $2000 each for these guitars I now can expect $1500 or perhaps less. Now until anyone who says Ebay does not set the price wants to offer me $2000 each for these guitars well then .... EBAY has set the price. And it is short!
Sure wish I could work out a trade with a matching pair of 1687-7 & 88-7 Adamas's and a Custom Legend and some cash for that Slothead. But this is only Thanksgiving, Wishes don't come true until next Month.
Enjoy the Day! |

Maybe it is the timing. Maybe I'm asking too much. I got a boatload of offers at prices I'm not willing to let it go for.
One of the things I'm thankful for today is that I'm not in a situation where I HAVE to sell it.
So, back to the closet it goes...
Y'all have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING today! |
