I just saw a DS-768 not sell on Ebay with the starting bid at $500. (of course I got home too late to check it out and/or bid) Is that model a deep bowl? I would probably have paid the $500 for a deep bowl. Arrrrgh!

There was a bid..... then the always mysterious ending due to some bogus reason....which probably means someone cut a deal and took it home.

Yes, the 768 is the deep bowl. Later on, they moved to the mid bowl and the model number changed to DS-778. $500 is a great deal for one in good shape.

I emailed the guy after the auction and asked if he would still sell the thing for his starting bid of $500 and the response wsa ... NO. Like StephenT28 said, someone probably bought it on a side deal.

I really wish I could play one of those to see how it plays and sounds. The only baritone guitar I have been able to try out was a Tacoma, and it looks like they took their acoustic bass and put six strings on it. The neck is way too fat to play, but the deep tone was very nice. I'd be willing to bet that an Ovation plays and sounds much better with the round back and the Kaman bar neck. And for that matter an Adamas model is probably all-the-more remarkable.

Me, too. I think I'll pick one up at the post office tonight and try it. :D

Stephen, any sign of the twins yet?

OH! ... Ouch! ... You JUST HAD to rub it in didn't you?

If you end up with it, let me know what you think about her. Right now I am totally dependent on 2nd-hand reviews.

That's OK. Just gives me another excuse not to spend the money yet. IAM a little partial to the natural finish anyway. A natural top would match my Elite Cedar and the Bass. Then all I would need is another Elite 12 string and then a natural UKE and mando.
