Looking to possibly buy an excellent condition 1984 collectors series for $700. Pros/cons? Never owned or played an ovation... What's ur thoughts?

I've only ever played one, but it was a killer guitar. But the owner had the factory set it up more to his liking so it's not exactly stock. It sounds GREAT plugged in.

I actually came across one for sale and planned on buying it tomorrow morning. Anything I should be on the lookout for?

So I ended up buying the guitar. Looks fantastic with no flaws what so ever. Being my first ovation , the less than full sound may take some getting used to. Love the neck and the way it plays so easily.

'84 is a ssb so it is gonna sound thin when it is unplugged but should sound great plugged into an acoustic amp.

Nice guitar. You will enjoy it.

I was surprised..... I bought a small Roland AC33 and it does sound as full as my Martin. Maybe a little more tweaking and I'll be there. Love it, impressed so far!

He said the same thing in the ad for the 87C, but that was probably just "marketing spoo."

Many of the older Ovations are awesome, and the ones in excellent condition with no cracks, dings and in perfect shape can cost a lot.

I have a 1717 Legend, thats about 25 years old, and I would never sell or trade it, that guitar has better tone than any Martin I have ever played.

So...If you finda great Ovation from the 1980's hold on to it for dear life !!
You'll be glad to did !!
That Old Ovation sounds better, than my Ovation 1777 LX....anyways I hope you find what you're looking for !!
