Glenn, I'll be watching to help get any other deals done down the road. I am looking forward to using it in some church situations that I think it will be great for. Back to the other part of this thread.... I'm going to have to get ahold of a Viper to try sometime. They always have intrigued me. Good luck Vince.

Tony also noticed that the sides of the fretboard looked very worn. I couldn't tell what it was for sure on my computer. I decided I'd rather spend another $50 or so and try to get a nicer one someday after my wife suddenly exclaims, "Gee, you haven't bought a guitar in a long time, why don't you buy one?"

Just about anything else I could deal with myself, but a crappy neck? no way. I tried bidding on the last Viper III. It had a very nicely flamed fretboard. After placing my initial bid and then adding a higher maximum bid (and receiving confirmation), the auction actually went to another bidder that bid lower. I have no idea how that could have happened since my maximum bid was placed a half a minute before the other guy's. (which was bid at 1 sec prior to the end) I know ... that all sounds confusing, and it still is for me also.

Finding a used guitar that STILL has a great neck, AND can still be aquired for a great price still seems to be the challenge. MY problem is having enough patience.

Got it for a good price and it looked great, but the prior owner had cranked the truss rod so hard that he broke it and cracked the fretboard. He never did anything about it with the seller. Miles was moving at the time, but after he got settled we got a new neck from Miles and it's all wonderful now, except that he ended up paying more for his Ultra GS than he needed to. The body on this Viper doesn't look so good either and Tony thought the pups looked corroded. I also had to factor in the trouble I'd get in for breaking my "promise" not to buy another guitar for a couple years. Either I have to get something ridiculously cheap or I have to get something really special. Then I can just smile when she gripes at me.
