Joined: April 2007 Posts: 234 Location: Archbald, PA | I am the original owner. Custom ordered 2003 Hybrid Carvin. I had Carvin change the stock electronics to a custom design which makes both the acoustic and electric outputs sound much better. Instead of same active board controlling both outputs, I had them put in the electronics from their acoustic AC175 which has a master treble & bass control. Stock electronics only has a tone control. There is more control now over the acoustic tone. The 2 Humbuckers are passive and hooked up to a 3-way switch, the humbuckers are coil tapped with a push/pull on tone control. There are 2 separate outputs which I run the active acoustic bridge output to my acoustic amp/or PA, and the electric (2 humbuckers) to my guitar amp. You always have an electric and acoustic sound at same time. There is also a master volume for both the acoustic and electric side. If you have distortion and effects on the electric, it does not effect the sound of the acoustic output. The other options are a Cedar top, gold hardware, and abalone block inlay. I paid over $1,300. Will sell for $800 OBO. Will trade for a USA Acoustic or USA electric guitar. Has OHSC. Action like butter, but the piezo was not quite as much acoustic "like" as I hoped. I now have a DC400 with piezo bridge (still pretty thin in acoustic mode) and a Carvin LB75P bass. I think used Carvins are some of the best bargains on a USA built guitars that there is. Hope you get what you are after.

The electronics I had them put in gives you more control over the acoustic tone. Having now a separate Treble and Bass control over stock 1 tone knob does the trick. I'm just looking to go more acoustic, don't need the electric guitar side as much any more.

Then sell the DC400, then buy a 1581 and my world would be complete. Got me thinking. Oh....if you are unfamiliar with the 1537, do a search here. People do not generally think too highly of them.

What color and year? What electronics? If you do have any pictures please send then to: jqballer1@yahoo.com and johnquinn@cinram.com with your location and phone number.

You are correct. I think mine was a 1983, maybe 84 model (only built them for two years) US made elite. Two knob stereo (9V) electronics with the walnut fretboard, gold tuners. Mine is the natural color. It does have a finish crack which is fairly typical and one pin head sized ding in the top. Additionally, someone drilled the bowl for to relocated the strap knob, but I put it back in the original location and used a plastic plug (I think it is the 1/8" size) to fill it. Original brown case. The 1537 is a sweet guitar so parting with it might be difficult, but then again....change is good too. Ask TraderJim ;)

Joined: September 2004 Posts: 777 Location: East Wenatchee, WA | Hey Damon, The DC400 has served me well, but I think I have decided to part with it as soon as I find a suitable replacement. I had my eye on a VXT for a while (a guy on one forum I am on snagged one from GC for $700...I about passed out). So...shoot me a pm and I can give you the gory details, and try to get some pictures to you. Jeff (P.S. Mark...I fixed the pm problem. Apparently it was deselected in my profile).
