Ive had this guitar for probably 15yrs & never changed anything on it or took it apart.

A few people are telling me that the pickups dont look original & suggested that I post on this site to get more info

Im only selling to pay for a new amp that I need

Thanks!

Billy,
Welcome to the OFC!

You have a Breadwinner that someone removed the finish on the front and back, changed the pups to Humbuckers with seperate Volume and Tone pots and added a couple of toggles I know what for.

Then they modified the pickguard to accomodate.

Do you have the original Ovation case?

I'm guessing that the original circuit board is gone and you don't have to change the batteries behind the plate in the back.

Email me a price you are looking for if you would please?

Thanks for the info!...Ive never had to change a battery, so I guess you are right.. As far as the stuff still being inside the guitar, I dont know, I will have to take it apart in the next few days & see whats in there.

I dont have the case

I listed it on Ebay purely based on what the past couple sold for (actually I posted it for cheaper than all of those sold for).. $750

But based on what you are telling me, Im not sure what its worth now

That's probably a bit high for one so drastically altered.

AJ would know. But you could let MWoody "fix it" and improve its chances. A wood pickguard and some wood knobs would make it look good.

Yeah Ive already thought I would just rebuild it if it doesnt sell.. its such a cool guitar.

My brother owns a custom guitar shop so he could redo it for me.

You all might like to check out his site www.simscustomshop.com Hes got TONS of pics on there & does a lot of jobs for stars

Sure you wouldn't want to just trade it for a nice Folklore or a cool red guitar?

Go tha whole nine yards hillbilly.....keep it and REALLY make it a custom. Your brother's shop does good work...why not let 'em have a go at it and save your $$$ for a new amp?!

You guys ARE making me think more about keeping it.. cause I know if it sells.. I will probably never get my hands on another one the rest of my life.

Is the Breadwinner one of the most rare electric Ovations you can find?

HB..your brother's shop seems stuck on such mundane models....give them a NEW challenge...by the looks of their work, it will be great.

Then it will be a one of a kind!! And you'll have ta keep it, darn..... ;)

I agree. You're not gonna hurt the value and the whole appeal of that guitar is the body shape. Just needs a better looking pickguard for starters.

Strip the neck and body, Walnut veneer over the PG, install Seymour Duncan p90 Phat Cats with a blender pot and maybe a little Mid Boost unit from Stewmac. Grab a new Chrome one-piece bridge and your sailing!

Or just let me borrow it until the NW OFC Jam in July... :D

The pickups in Hillbilly's Breadwinner look like Lawrence L90s from the late 70s: BL L90

They came in mixed cream/black sets. They have a small cult following, kinda like the Breadwinner. Some people really like them and would choose them over current Duncans and Dimarzios. Even so, the original electronics would bring a higher price.

Yeah, no case and the mods make it a $450 guitar. If the wood is in good shape and the neck/frets are still good, it would be great for a refurbish job.

I believe that the "12'er" is now residing in North Carolina along with the Golden Viper and my more recent Viper.

That's me, all over.

I think I need another Breadwinner...

I noticed that the listing was edited to include a hyped version of the info about the pickups, but other comments posted here were left out. Must have been an oversight.

The lone bidder placed two bids, so he must have really wanted it. Maybe there's something special about the "Misfits".
