They're not common. That was the transition between the Matrix and the early USA-built Ultras. Ply top, aluminum/foam neck with a rosewood board.

I might have left that one behind when I moved out of that area 15 years ago ...

The top has aged well. Not too bad a price.

Intentionally or were ya in a rush? Have you owned one? If so, observations please.

Mike,

Yeah, that's what I thought.

No, I was joking. I left Poughkeepsie in the summer of 1993 with one guitar to my name. Nothing left behind that I know of, but getting 'that knock on the door' isn't out of the question.

PT,
Are you saying this Balladeer has a ply top and aluminum neck? I thought all US Ovations had solid tops.

My only experience with one of these is playing a second-hand one in a music store in Ottawa a couple of years back. Even allowing for the old strings, it was a dog soncally, although it played well.

Yes, The Matrix, Balladeer Special, Ultra and several Collectors Editions had laminated tops.

The Balladeer Special was basically an upgraded Matrix, which became the short-lived US-produced Ultra. They all had aluminum/foam necks with a refrettable rosewood fingerboard.
