In appearance, the 1687-8 is a little darker than the original which is how they have been finishing them the last ? ten years. The 2-knob pre-amp is stronger (some say "hotter") than the original. In fact, several of us have replaced the old pre-amp with the new one.

As to playability, in comparison with my 1979 and 1980 1687's, it is equal. A true reissue.

As many have said here before "I wish there was a place nearby to try out some of these great Ovation and Adamas Guitars." Al ... Although I DO live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, I sometimes wish I lived in Jersey so I could come in and hang out at your shop.

I totally relied on respected advice when I bought my first textured top on eBay (photos only)...Al was one of those I sought advice from.

Warning, they are far better than you can imagine.

I also bought a textured top, sight unseen and was blown away. I had played an Adamas I many, many years ago. There's good advice to be had here. At some point you just need to trust and type in your credit card details.

Probably one of the best reissues made that remained true to the original.

A few 47RI owners might debate that with you ... but your point is valid. The 1687 is an amazing guitar.

Don't think I would take exception to the statement...lots of difference between the 47RI and the 1687.

The 47RI is a wonderful image of the original slotheads as the 1687 reissue is of the early 1687's.

The point to be made is the 47RI is hands above the 1687. Yet, the 1687 is a great guitar.

As the 1687 is an a/e and the 47RI is an acoustic...now we also have the a/e OFC slothead thanks to Al's effort.

Nice to have at least one of each.

You haven't bought one yet? Seriously, if you can't get an original, get a RI...You'll never regret it!
