What price is the guy asking? Although Applause guitars sound nice, you may be able to pick up a Balladeer for a comperable price, and they are SO much better. The aluminum fretboard is not as easy on the fingers, and when they wear out, you will need a new neck. Unless he is asking under $200, I would hold out for something better.

Mine has stood the test of time very well. I posted a picture of it in this thread.

If you're looking at one that old, I would advise looking at two thing in particular: sight down the frets and make sure they're not worn down too badly, and take a good look across the body for any excessive warping. If both of those aspects look good, it was probably well taken care of.

But I also agree with the post above. Unless you want an Applause for sentimental reasons, you'd be better off with a Balladeer or even a nice-sounding Celebrity.

Ok Iffy i ll tell ya but let me warn ya it may be a bit long winded . 1982 i sold this same guitar
to help finance my Peavey T-60 , plans for touring the world got put on hold i needed to feed my family 4 growing boys . over the years
like many others at the OFC i have collected guitars. a little over a month ago i started selling them all but held on to the T-60 .
as chance would have it i picked up an old celeb
it reminded me of the AA-14 .i began a search and ended up in this forum, things got a little foggy
i picked up a new celeb then sold both and got a legend ,gave it to my 16 yr old John then i picked up the 1718 i love this one, and a 1115 that i m working on, next the 1597 Adamas great guitar- sold it. got a 1537 and 1687
one day after the other felt a little greedy (BAD GAS) so i gave the 1537 to my 22 yr old Jesse he doesnt play guitar yet? and yes im still living at home
and the little lady is taken a interest in playn the guitar herself. so i have guitars scattered
about the house and at work .Put the peavey on cl
to sell or trade for an you guessed it Ovation .
turned out this guy mike had the AA-14 he was saving just for me!( a twist of fate) . its mint i love it .
i have a capo on the 5th fret and for some reason
in that position the tone is crystal clear?
anyway thanks to all you ovation fans
in conclusion OFC a great place for GAS -mike
