Guitar stolen with car was either 1763 or 1863 Classic Nylon Acoustic my son was using for Music Composition program at Grant MacEwan Edmonton. What is value of this guitar?

Janilene,

sorry to hear about the loss...

450-750 dollars is what they have been selling for recently on the used market when you can find one in good condition, some higher.. the 1763 is the deep bowl model and more often sought after, the 1863 is a super shallow bowl, there were several versions of both with different preamps and configurations over the years, and again condition is everything as well as age and bracing styles that evolved over the years of production. if you have the ser# it would identify the year of production, and also help in the valuation of the guitar.

the current model #'s of the same guitar are the 1773 and 2073 LX models and retail out around 1500 dollars I believe.

I hope you can recover both the guitar and the car.

Glenn

If you're trying to document values to the insurance company, you probably want something more than what we say, although I agree with what Glenn said.
Get on ebay and check the completed listings for those models under Ovation guitars. You should be able to find some that you could print and give to the insurer.

Better yet ... search online for a vintage dealer who is selling one and get those. The value will be more indicative of what you would have to pay if you needed to replace it right this minute. Use google and also try gbase.com.
