I prefer the look of the CVT W597 to the 1597s, but I don't know if I prefer it $400 worth if the guitars sound the same plugged in or straight acoustic. Anyone familiar with both? Is there actually a difference that isn't cosmetic? Thanks!

The Texture top was more open sounding with huge bass even for a mid bowl depth. The 1597 seemed to be just a tad more defined in the mid-range, but felt a bit muddy there too. I loved my 597 as the action was like an electric and it really was a great performing guitar. Depending on your budget, you may want to look at the 2080 (unless the looks don't appeal to you) as they are a fantastic guitar, and both Al and I have a used one for sale in the $1500 range. You get the VIP with the 2080 which is either good or bad depending on your view point (see reviews of VIP)

I always thought I wanted to end up with a W597 until I heard a Ute and a few other textured tops. It goes without saying that "which is better" is subjective but I would guess (pretty confidently actually) that the textured tops would absolutely bury the non-textured in a poll around here.triple ditto

With the W597, you can See the weave through the finish, but the is still alot of finish. My only comparison is two T's... Any of my regular black T's sound fuller than my Orange Flame T. The real difference being that the OF has paint and polyvinylwhatevertheyuse. And if you are gonna go for the gusto, you want the textured weave in reverse-blue-burst anyway.
