Does anyone know what the story is on these guitars? It seems like they are not very common.
Thanks

Mid 90's, made for the European market. Use the search feature here to learn more about them. They have been discussed in the past....

ES stands for Englemann Spruce ... which is what they used for the top wood on these guitars. Indeed, they are not very common but they do show up from time to time. Aside from that, pretty much standard fare in Elite clothing. Do you have one, or have one in your sights?

BTW, welcome.

Sorry to say that, but I think the standard version of the Engelman Ovations is boring compared to the regular Elite versions called 1768-EMSX (Engelman Spruce Custom), aka "German Special Edition Vol.1", with it's Longneck neck inlays, spruce headstock and so on.

But soundwise I am sure it's a great guitar. My Engelman Ovation has a very own, wonderful tone - like none of the others.

Best regards,
Kurt

Stonebobbo, I do have one and it is a good sounding guitar acoustic or plugged in, I bought it several years ago and it was basically unplayed, it is simple but a great looking guitar, I just wondered why they did not make many like it. I have considered selling it I have twin girls in college.

Kurt, to the best of my memory, the ES's were made in both Legend and Elite configuration. I remember seeing both (I think) in stores about 13-14 years ago. Very nice guitars with beautiful tops. Were they made exclusively for the German market? I did see them here in the states and it seems to me that somebody once told me that most went overseas and a few stayed here.....

I just got outbid on one on ebay, and from my research here, I learned that the few that stayed here, were because of teeeeeny tiny blemishes, and do not have the "ES" ect. on the label.

Mine has the ES on it, and I do not think it was a second or had blemishes.

Paul, that's right, Legends and Elites (besides the Standard Elites) were made.

The german distributor couldn't bring too much light in it, spoke about a handful of guitars that were produced - but we know better in the meantime.

I guess most of the Engelman Elites and Legens stayed in the US. They regularlely pop up on american ebay, and I just saw them once on european bays.

As far as the german distributor remembered, they were built with acoustic sound in mind, as they did with the 1993 Collector's model.

And I have to say - from all the wooden tops this one really sounds the most "woody".

Best regards,
Kurt

Cardin, do you have pics? I'd love to see them.

Cardin, now is a bad time to be selling. Prices are really depressed compared to a year or two ago. If you can wait to sell, you'll probably get a better price next year or the year after.

Which means that now is a great time to be a buyer. If you hang out here, chances are you'll be doing the irresponsible thing before too long...

Kurt I will try to get some pictures, it is a great looking piece and it does have a deep woody tone to it. For the kind of money that redcat said the ebay one sold for I think I will just wait. I probably would regret selling it anytime I have ever sold an instrument at some point I always want it back.

I think the best time to sell is AFTER the income tax returns (yes ...some people still get them) come in the Spring.
