I like the looks of the slotted tuners on the Ovation Pacemakers. I am wondering if they are any harder to tune or to restring. Also, can one of those pickups that clip to the sides of the soundhole be used on a Pacemaker? Any help is appreciated.

No harder to tune than any other 12 string.

Takes a little longer to change strings but not that much.

That p/u would work as well on a 12 as it would on a 6....

I'm more concerned about the thickness. My Custom Balladeer has an insert sort of thing rather than a rosette. It makes the edge thicker. I don't know if all Ovations are the same or if the pickup adjusts that much.

An "insert sort of thing"? An inlaid rosette? Can you post a picture?

Takes me twice as long I bet, and several more puncture wounds... But I love the Pacemaker. I wish I still had one.

I guess it is an "inlaid rosette"; the rosettes I've seen on other guitars add nothing to the thickness. On my Ovation, the inlay rises above the top of the guitar and adds to the thickness of the soundhole edge. I hope I'm making sense -
I would like to amplify my guitar, but is 36 years old and in great shape. I'm not sure I want to alter it in any way. I'm kinda new at this and appreciate the help.

I second Damon's comments on changing strings. I've got a Seymour Duncan Woody soundhole pickup and it works fine with my 1115.

I have a Bill Lawrence soundhole pickup that has a spring to hold it. It doesn't fit well on the Ovation rosettes because of the thickness, but it still works. Other pickups have different fastening mechanisms, so just check it out before you buy the pickup.

It takes me about the same to restring a slothead as it does a regular paddle head.

Maybe it is because I get lots of practice since at least a 1/3 of my acoustic guitars are slotheads.

I have a Pacemaker model 1615 that I need to move out. Just haven't actively tried to sell it yet. You can see a photo of it here:

Send me a PM and I'll shoot some more photos and get you more details.
