So I'm checking out what looks like a killer deal: 1581 on ebay and I ask the seller a few questions about the specific condition of the guitar, and if there's any way to evaluate it since there's no refunds. He responds that it's mint, no evaluation period, and then proceeds to block me from his auction, calling me a "suspicious buyer". What the..?

You're too suspicious for him. He wants someone who will take his word for it.

Don't worry! He's just stuck-up Joe...
Dude implies that he is an experienced seller/collector cuz he owns 15 guitars. :p
As someone said, "Beware the man who owns One Guitar, he may actually know how to Play it!"
I would point-out... No, I WILL point-out to him that if you accept PayPal, you accept Returns.

"The ONLY guitar made with a Carbon Fiber top!"

No... it was something the seller left out.

Condition is stated as "used" in the field that eBay provides to the seller to state condition.
The seller says "collector grade". Which is subjective.
In his response to you, he says he said, "mint collector grade". If his description said that, you wouldn't have asked.
I copied this to the seller. He'll probably block me too... OMG what will I do now!

He's the type of seller you want to stay away from. Inadvertently leaving out "mint", just imagine what your interactions with the guy would be if the truss rod adjustment tool was inadvertently left unsecured in the case during shipment and the top got scratched up.

If you like that price, get hold of Al and see what he can do for you. On Al's worst day, he would never respond like that.

Pardon my cut and paste (and edit) of the language in the seller's eBay listing:

"I have sold over 150 guitars and instruments on Ebay. Many of them very expensive vintage gems. ... I manage the guitar dept. of a major music chain. I acquire guitars for myself at special pricing ... have my tech set it up and send it out into the world ..."

OK then. If this dude was the manager at my guitar store and he was pulling this crap he'd be out on his ass. How many of the vintage guitars he sold on eBay came from folks trading them in and this dude intercepts them? If he worked at Aaron's or Home Depot, then I got no issue. But this just seems like the guy is doing a disservice to his employer. Screw the hobby ... this is part of your job!

Sounds pretty shady to me. I'd give Al a call and see what he can do for you.

Good advice Jim. The next time I buy a guitar I'll look here and talk to Al before going anywhere else.

This is at least the second time this guitar has been up on eBay. The first time it was advertised as an Adamas I. Sounds like this guy is REALLY on top of his game.

Absolutely: I managed several guitar departments over several years...That was a sure fire cause for termination...I'd give this guy a wide berth...what else is he appropriating?

One of the reasons I do this by myself. (Not to mention that I can't afford to pay for help :D ) Someone should find out where this guy works and inform his boss, but I have a feeling he is lying about where he works too. I don't know of a single music store owner who doesn't cruise ebay several times a day. If this guy really worked at a music store, the owner would know what he's doing.

Look at the photos in the guy's other auction. There might be a hint to where he works. Maybe he is one of the owners.

That's a gorgeous Adamas...makes me thirst for another Adamas. Thankfully I don't have the $$ or I might be bidding in the middle of the night so my wife wouldn't find out...until a week later when it showed up.

Very Angry seller. You'll have nothing but trouble with an ASS like this if something happens during shipping and you have to contact him. No reason a seller would jump on someone no matter how foolish the question and I see nothing foolish about yours. He states "to ask any questions before bidding". I think he is angry because he knows it won't sell. I have been watching Adamas 1's in mint condition go for under $1,400. I bought one. Let this guy keep his, there will be many more to come.

But he sure does use a lot of fonts, font sizes and colors so he must know what he's doing...dazzling!

Y'know? The first time I played with a word processor I was amazed at all the fonts.
Used to write letters in "Old English" until I realized how hard the stuff is to read.
But some little kids just Gotta play with every doodah on the machine.
That doesn't mean they are competent.

The way this guy jumped on me and called me a suspicious buyer just for asking an honest question makes him a most suspicious seller to me. He just emailed me giving me another chance. (Gosh)

I almost responded in big bold multi-colored fonts, but the words I wanted to use were themselves big, bold, and colorful ;-)

He's not even worth responding to. He lost any chance of me ever buying anything from him. Thanks for all your posts! I feel like my OFC family's got my back :-)

I responded to his add with my own question.

It went something like this " Just wondering how you claim to have sold so many guitars with such an arrogant attitude?"

I wonder if it will appear in the questions asked section?

I wouldn't waste my time with him. He's really not offering any kind of great deal for that guitar. You can definitely do better.
