I sing in B or B flat usually, and this would make things so much easier. Alas, even though the car is running again, I just can't do it. I sure hope somebody here snags it though and decides to resell it when I've got the money.

So I guess if I get a longneck and a capo I can play around on the first seven frets. (But then I gotta buy longer strings, Right?) And I'll be really annoyed if this goes for $400 and I don't bid on it... But I ain't bidding on it.

Seriously, try this out ... buy yourself a couple of sets of D'Adds EJ18s (.014 - .059, they call them heavy). Stick those on your UTE and tune it D G C F A D. Now you've got a poor man's baritone guitar ... that'll also rumble your guts a little. You can use it for those three songs during the gig and use the AD for the others. I did this on my JL3 recently as I have a song I've written in G, with a bunch of pieces that work well, but I found an alternate fingering out of the A position that works really well as a second guitar. But if I move the song up two frets to be able to use the A fingering, I can't hit the notes in the chorus I need to sing. This solved my problem and also gave a really nice flavor to the tune. Using the heavies kept the right tension so that I don't have floppy strings or fret buzzes.
