I cannot find one flaw in this guitar and with the deep bowl and cedar top it sounds incredible. It will go to Ebay soon if I don't recieve any interest here. Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | ... And it has been WELL taken care of. As close to "pristine" condition as any guitar of its age could be while still having the top broken in (opened up). It HAS that "MOJO" woody sound.
Here I go again ... I sure hate getting rid of this one, but I cant have EVERYTHING that I want. |

I am intruiged...So tell me, what is the difference between this guitar and a 1437? Is the sound comparable to a 1537 (my dream guitar) or a 1437? They sure look alike...perhaps different bracing?
I am considering selling my 1657 Deep Bowl AAA w/ A bracing to a friend...would this Elite be a significant upgrade in sound from my 1657?...I'm a bit of a bass fanatic.

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I am assuming you are refering to a 1547 as I have never heard of a 1437, so I will continue on with that assumption ... I have asked those same questions myself in the past few months. I directed the comparison question to Ovation/Kaman. what I found was the 1768 was not built the same as the 1537/47. As much as I love this particular guitar and it's sound (deep and warm sounding due to the deep bowl and cedar top), the 1537/47 has an additional wood ply in the upper bout for strengthening the top under the eppis. This apparenty resulted in extending the tonal and frequency range of that particular model.(although there doesn't seem to be any documentation stating that it was intended) The 1768 has a different type of reinforcing in the same place, but I haven't figured out what it actually is.(apparently some kind of film or resin) Two other obvious differences between the 1537 and the 1768 is the top wood itself and the fretboards; 1537 used AAA Sitka Spruce whereas THIS guitar has an exceptionally-beautiful CEDAR top, which is quite unique for Ovations, and in my opinion accents the bass and creates an exceptionally warm tone.(I wish they would have produced a Country Artist with a cedar top) Classical guitars utilize these two different type woods to offer two different varieties of tone also, with the cedar being more warmer and the spruce, brighter. The fretboards also differ with the 1537 having a black walnut and the 1768 being rosewood. I don't personally know how that projects to sound quality or sustain.(that might make for a nice discussion topic in itself) Electronics are also completely different (although that makes no difference to me with these models) Anyway, with all that said, this guitar has a very uniquely-warm and deep sound and it also plays very well. I only wish I could own both models, but that is not an option for me.

Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | Thanks for the description and detail Vince, that was an education...sounds like a great guitar...my 1713 is a cedar top as well, and you are right, the cedar top gives it a very warm tone.
If I sell the 1657, I will definitely track your guitar on the bay.

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Mark ... Thanks for mentioning that. That is one of the things I like so much about the 1537. That walnut binding really adds class to the guitar. I wish they would do more of that, but I am told it is very difficult and therefore expensive. (Doesn't do much for seling this one though) I feel like I'm selling a 1537. |

Yes, the 1713 gets a work out this time of year...I've never played another guitar that brings christmas carols alive like finger picking them on the 1713...I think it's the cedar top, and of course good hard tension strings. I am trying a set of LaBella Medium Hard Flamenco guitar strings this year...believe me, even med/hard in flamenco strings is high tension.
Anyways, I really like the tone and "pluck"ability of these strings...and the guitar is as georgeous to look at as it is to hear.
