As I work on my 1st album I've discovered some things that help to eliminate recording problems so I thought I'd share them with you.

Yes they might be obvious or well known but here you go anyway (this list is not exhaustive just some things I've noted)...

1. Ensure that the mic cables are no-where near power supplies. I noticed a faint buzz from one of my mics, tracked the problem down to the mic cable being near the laptop power supply.

2. Breathe gently through your mouth as snorting through your nose is more likely to be picked up by a close mic

3. Wear a long sleeved top, a bare arm can get stuck to the guitar and when moving your hand/arm position the mic might pick the "unsticking" noise.

That's it for now ;)

Thanks Dweez. I had intuited the first one, but the other two have never occurred to me before. :)

Good ones...

Also: if not in true studio conditions, be sure to do a comprehensive search for ambient noise sources.

You'd be surprised at the extent to which fans, blowers, regrigerators and other things worm their way into our psyches and lull us into thinking we're in complete silence.

REAL, near complete silence actually hurts the ear drums.
