| I asked this question in an older post, but didn't get an answer. I just bought a Model 1111 dated from 1981, and it has the A braced top. I didn't think these were ever built with this bracing pattern. Any ideas? Thanks.

Location: SoCal | Interesting question. In the 1980 catalog, the Balladeer is listed as have a modified X bracing pattern. In the next piece of literature, a January 1983 "Information" pamphlet, it's listed as having a "K-5" bracing pattern. I have to admit, I have no idea what that is. Anybody know?
My guess is that the top and bowl on your Balladeer have been replaced. Trust me, the A bracing pattern is superior to whatever had been on there.... |

| I agree, every Ovation that I own has the A braced top, but I wasn't expecting one on a 1111. This guitar doesn't look like it's ever been played. Neck, keys, bowl, and board are all mint. I just thought I would peek inside while I was doing a string change, and noticed the bracing. I sent a e-mail to Ovation, and they told me that this was standard bracing for this guitar, depending when it was built in 1981, or it could have possibly had a top replacement at some time. I'm doubting this, because of the overall condition. No fret wear at all, or any sign of ever being played. I'm tickled to death with the guitar, just curious. By the way, it sounds awesome.

Location: Scotland | I may be wrong here, but if memory serves K5 was a simpler version of the A pattern. It first appeared on the USA-made Ultras in the early 80's and was used on Balladeers and Custom Balladeers for a while. |

| O.K. where can I see an example of this bracing pattern. I don't remember ever seeing that particular one, before.

| I did that when I changed strings, and assumed it was the same A bracing pattern that was in my Legends. That was the reason for my question. I just saw the A pattern and didn't go any further, but apparently there is a difference in the two. |
