I’ve always liked to 2005 Collector’s. It introduced the contour bowl and had, for Ovation, an up-until-then-rare inlaid rosette of marvelously figured green abalone making it the most innovative Collector’s since the ’97 Parlor guitar. These are really nice little guitars, and though they look great in the pictures, they look even better in person! (Isn’t that always the way?) Seriously, I personally think this is one of Ovation’s classiest, most elegant looking instruments.

And it has the sound to match its looks. With the deep contour punching out acoustic tone backed up by the OP-Pro preamp, this one holds its own in any setting. The neck is nice and comfy as well and stays intoned throughout its length. Fretwear is minimal. I’ll put on a new set of strings before shipping so that you’ll be good to go right out of the box.

Other than some EXTREMELY tiny blemishes, the finish looks almost new. I can’t even say the tiny marks are dings. If I didn’t say something about them, you might not notice them for a long time, they are that small. And this is where the true beauty of this instrument resides; they used wonderfully creamy looking Engelmann Spruce for the top on these, and the results are aesthetically breathtaking. There is true elegance in the simplicity of this very well-done guitar. Honestly, the instrument looks nearly flawless!

It will ship with its hard shell case of course. The case has just a few scuffs but is otherwise nearly new looking. The inside is PERFECT! It should last for decades.

For those who are detail-oriented, here are the specs, straight from the Ovation website:

COLLECTOR'S SERIES
Model 2005-ES

6 String Acoustic/Electric
Body Type: Deep Contour Bowl
Top: Solid Englemann Spruce
Bracing: LX Bracing
Scale Length: 25 1/4"
Fretboard: Deluxe Ebony
Fret Inlay: 12th Fret Contour Curve
Bridge: Ebony
Rosette: Inlayed abalone trimmed with grained ivory
Pickup: Original Patented Pickup
Nutwidth: 1 11/16"
Machines: Ovation Gold

I took more pics than will fit in this post, so here’s a link to all of them on my ning page.

2005 Collector\'s Pics

I’ll put this on eBay soon, but wanted to offer it here first. I’ll ship it in the continental US for $875. I’m willing to ship to overseas members, but shipping fees have risen enough to earn the label commonly known as “stupid”. So check with me first to see what can be worked out.

Ask any questions. It was a beautiful day, so enjoy the pictures. This guitar could be used to define photogenic!

Definitely one of Ovations best Collectors Series Guitars.

Good luck with the sale.

So many great guitars, so little money to buy them with! This would be one I'd love to have. Good luck with the sale, Patch.

Hoo boy!

Very slow start with this auction, even for an Ovation...

Can you believe this thing is stuck at $200? I know O's have poor resale value, but it's usually not THAT poor!

Prettiest girl in the Ovation family tree. I'd own one (or more) if they didn't have the contour back, which I find uncomfortable and awkward.

I wish Ovation would take a hint and stop putting those silly plastic rings around the soundhole. This treatment is SOOO much classier. My main player is a Celebrity with the same soundhole inlay (well, not quite as nice), picked solely because it did not have the plastic ring.

I know, stupid. But man I'm tired of that thing (and obviously I'm in a venting mood). To my eye, it's one of the biggest reasons these guitars don't get the respect they deserve. They're great guitars, but that plastic ring makes them look cheap — like a pretty girl with way too much makeup and fake eyelashes. Okay, I'm done. I'll go away now.

I sure hope it does better than that for you. I think there's a curse or something on the 2005's right now...I've been trying to trade mine for a deep bowl elite for what seems like forever with no luck.

I fear that it is an across the board lack of interest in spending money. There's a GC178LX on the feebay right now with no bids. Ending soon, opening bid $399, BIN $699. This guitar is GC's version of the 1778LX, and it is a super guitar that should be gone already at the BIN.

Getting nervous now. I'm not going to play the doof and pull this ad because it's selling too low. But with about one day to go, it's not even at $250 yet and most of the bidders are probably just dealers who want to flip it. If someone is going to steal this fantastic guitar, I would much prefer that the thief be someone here. At least I know they'd appreciate the instrument. Bid away folks. You just might get a STUPID cheap deal!

Hope for the best...
It is getting to be everybody uses a sniping program. (I refuse to do that!)
So if it doesn't start out high, it still might end-up that way.
Otherwise you might make a poor boy (or girl) Happy! :D

I've sold a bunch of guitars on eBay - all for more than satisfactory prices. It's my observation that almost always there's no significant action until the last hour and that most of it happens in the last 5 minutes. It is a little nerve wracking, but don't worry. I guarantee that the price is gonna go higher.

I know, I know. I'm just venting my spleen a little. (One of the higher purposes of this forum in my opinion. :p ) I've just had a remarkably ratty run of luck all around in the past week (with the notable exception of receiving that incredible 1713-X). Guess it's made me a little paranoid. :)

Agreed, it will skyrocket in the last 10 minutes. All the good ones do.

When I was looking for one for my son I bid on a nice O that was in the low $200s with and hour left. I was the high bidder and it sold in the mid $400s. It was no where near as nice as this.

I'd love to take a run at it, but not just before I spend 2 weeks in the car with SWMBO. Bad timing on our part, Patch.

Yeah, it was a steal for sure. There's a lot of that going around at the moment, great for buyers but not for sellers.

I'd love to offer mine at that kind of price, just so long as someone offered their 1768 to me at a similar bargain!
