Location: East Tennessee | While on a recent visit to the local Guitar store I stumbled across a NEW 1997 Collectors edition. Their price is $1595. Strings are almost black with tarnish. Battery is dead, (I plugged it into an amp nothing but a hum.) Even with old strings it had a nice sound. It is the narrow neck version.
My Question is, what is it worth? Although it would still probably have the factory warranty, it is still an 8 year old guitar. I've seen some on ebay and they don't appear to be a hot item.
Of course many of the listings have too high a starting bid. I'm kinda interested in this guitar but not really developing into major GAS...... YET. :D |

Location: East Tennessee | Thanks. That's what I've been seeing. I haven't talked to the store owner about price. I would think He would want it out of his inventory. The store has and sells a lot of Martins, Gibsons and Taylors. East Tennessee is Country/Bluegrass Country. I live in Dolly Parton's Hometown. Ovations really Don't get the respect they should. I'm trying to change that One guitar at a time. I wonder what dealers cost is? Maybe still too high. If it were a wide neck it would be worth more. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | I had one of these for a while, then sold it to Stephent28. I got it in NEW cond. and sent it to Stephen that way. $550(or close to that). Most of the ones on ebay have been in that cond. and price range. You're better off waiting and keeping your eyes open for a used one. By the way...with new strings and a new battery...that guitar sounded so sweet and clear it would bring tears to your eyes. John <>{ |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | I have owned 4 of the parlors and everyone was a joy to play. Traded one, sold a wide neck to Noah and still have a wide neck and the narrow neck that I got from Bauerhillboy.
Not a very loud guitar, but very sweet to play and I love the smooth open sound that it has.
You should definately talk to the store owner and try to pick it up in the $800 or less range (assuming you would have new warranty on it). Without the warranty, a hundred or so less. |

| hey guys, I'm new to the board.
Just got a 97 collector via my uncle (believe its a narrow neck, not sure) #131. I just changed the strings, and I believe it needs a new battery, except I have no clue how to get to it. If anyone knows where the battery compartment is on this bad boy I'd be very appreciative if you'd either reply or send a PM. Thank you very much, I only ask because 1.) I hope to play live with it tomorrow and 2.) I just want to hear this baby plugged in. Thanks again. |

Location: East Tennessee | Look on the bottom side, you'll see a screw. When turned about 90 degrees the battey compartment,( located inside the bowl), should come free. Slide the cover off a replace the battery. You will probably have to loosen the strings.
They are a really nice sounding guitar, especially finger style. :)
The width of the wide neck models is 1 7/8" at the nut. I also believe there will be a "W" after the 1997 on the label.
BTW the local stroe I mentioned when I started this post still has the guitar. |

He's bringing back a Spruce/Curly Maple cutaway Dreadnaught for me. $160! At those prices I could slowly build a global collection. |

| Thanks again gospel guitar guy, can't thank you enough for the help. Tonights my first gig with it, should be good! I've only had time to play it a few hours, looking forward to seeing this baby perform. I used to be really against Ovations (never could get into the roundback/headstock), but I love this guitar. The slotted peghead really looks smooth, and I'll probably order some ebony knobs since the plastic ones have all cracked. Also, the TRC is gone, anyone know if it's at all possible to get one without a custom order? Thanks again guys, you've all been very helpful. |

| I figured I'd just buy the replacement parts from stewmac, but the main problem is the TRC. I'd also like to know what kind of bowl the 97 collector's has, sorry for all the questions, I just want to get this thing tip top notch. |

| walnut would be sweet, but...how do I get it? I've never talked to any customer service people, let alone Ovation's (although I've heard they are the best, friendly and the like). I was going to just get the replacement ebony tuners from stewmac, since they're only like 25 bucks, and the replacement tuner screws too (I'm missing two, not sure if I mentioned it). All I'm really looking to find right now is the TRC and possibly a hardshell (I'm not 100% on the bowl size/body shape, or which case to get) I have the bag it was shipped in, but it smells quite strongly of smoke as my uncle is a heavy smoker. I'll post pictures if I can find out a place to host them. Thanks again everybody, there's a real respect I've found from you that's rarely found anywhere else, especially on the internet. |
