Hi folks. Firstly, my name is Dave. I posted here a few times when I was "workin' for the man" at a music store a while back. I decided that I'd try to be like Alpep and start my own gig. I stock a few Ovation imports and like to pick up some USA FRG's now and then. I'll be sure to give y'all first crack at them in the for sale section. Anyway, thought some of you might dig this. That's Seal & Brian May. Pretty cool ad. Cheers!

Probably not custom (or lefty).

Look at the end of the fingerboard....

I don't mean to vere off topic, but I was born and raised in Miami, and that's where I spent most of my professional life as a working/gigging musician. I just got a pang of homesickness from looking at the "A Round Miami" ad. I've never seen the ad before, but I can't tell you how many times in my life I've been at that exact location. That photo was taken on Key Biscayne, and that's the downtown Miami skyline behind them. That bridge you see in the background is the Rickenbacker Causeway that takes you from the mainland of Miami to the Key... Sorry, this probably means nothing to any of you. I'm just having a sentimental moment.

I was under the impression that this was from a photoshoot in England... a few days before the Freddie Mercury/Phoenix Trust gig at Wembley, near the rehearsal studios. They had got a load of the performers to sign an Ovation which was auctioned for charity...

Of course, having never been to the area, I can't say for sure. Fully prepared to be universally ridiculed.

There's one of the full promo pictures on page 100 of The Book.

elduave,

Your first post on the OFC starts a thread named, "Early 90's Ovation Ad".
You created your thread in the General Posting area of the Bulletin Board.

I click on your thread only to be hit with how you decided to try to be like Alpep and start your own gig… you stock a few Ovation imports… and you are going to give us first crack at FRG’s when you get them.
Oh… and then you displayed that Early 90’s Ovation Ad.

Alpep would have shared the Early 90’s Ovation Ad with us here in the General Posting area and talked-up his business in the For Sale area.

Alpep does not rely on tricks to drum-up business. Al has developed a working relationship with many of us based on trust and service.

Your first post here on the OFC is self-serving bait… why would I want to do business with someone who introduces himself in this manner? I interpret your first paragraph as saying, “now that I got you here… I’m Dave and I want to sell you guitars…”

Common sense tells me that if I can’t trust someone before I give them money, I would be foolish to think I could trust them after they have my money.

noah-There's alot I could say to you, but I'm sure it wouldn't change your opinion of who I am (regardless of the fact that you're making sweeping judgements from one post). You're pretty far off base. The most "foolish" thing you've done is to insinuate that I can't be trusted.

Thanks paulmac for the link to the ads. The Saigon Kick ad is now my wallpaper.

Al, I guess you should move this thread to the "For Sale" section.

You know guys, there is a little icon on every post called "send private message". A lot of the dirty laundry that gets posted here could just as easily be dealt with mano-a-mano. But what do I know, I'm just an idiot who plays ukulele. Dave

Yes, just a bit north of that location. If the picture panned out a little more to the right, you'd probably see it. Steve, where'd you go to school?

Just publishing a full retraction of my "isn't that picture in England?" post of earlier.

There's people here who definately know more than I do about this sort of thing, actually having been to the place of the picture (just to re-iterate, I guessed where it was taken...). Apologies all - my bad.

At least that means I don't have to learn anything else today, so I can get on with my usual task of blind ignorance all day!

Have a good week, cats and kittens.

Jerome:

In the commemorative section, you've got the GC 12 string photo where a Josh White photo should be.
