Location: Boise, Idaho | People collect stuff, including guitars, on the basis that only a few were made. I love the ebay writeups for "rare" guitars, especially when there is another one just like it on the same page. I have a "rare" BMW Mtechnic, that is basically a dressed up 323ic. I bought it only because it was rare, the seller didn't know how rare it was, and I needed another car. Those were logical reasons, but the emotional reason was that I like the idea of having something few people have. Others like to have the same thing everyone else has. Then there's Dave, who doesn't fit any category. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I think we want to know so when were out playing one of these, we can boast about having something that most people will never be able to own. It goes back to the boys and their toys idea. We all did the same thing when we were kids, with sportscards and stuff like that. Speaking of which ... how many of you used great playing cards on the spokes of your bikes?? I'm just glad I didn't do anything stupid with my 1537. |

This was late sixties so we had seen Mickey Mantle and Carl Yaztremski (we were around Bahston) on more than a few occasions! After all, we just wanted the gum! |

We used to take partially inflated balloons, tie both ends to the fork, and then s-l-o-w-l-y let it s-q-u-e-e-z-e into the spokes until it wrapped around to the other side of the fork . . .
A pair of balloons on a bike made it sound like you were running open pipes on a BSA! . . (or at least it did to us) . . . |

I remember the balloon trick now as well. You win that round!
I will throw in that we would also cut the front forks off of "spare" bikes and jam as many extensions to the front forks as possible. The limit was around 5 because after that they would buckle or come apart over a curb.
The term in our neighborhood for an effeminate young man was "Quee-ahh". It was used liberaly and often in he wrong context. |

We had the luxury of having a radiator repair shop in the neighborhood, and if we showed up around lunchtime, the guy did welding jobs for us.
Did the "fork extensions" as well . . .
Had one with four forks welded together, and handlebars replaced with a blue steering wheel from a '64 Corvair . . . |

Location: Boise, Idaho | We stuck my younger brother's foot in the spokes. Didn't get the sound we wanted, but it broke his leg. That did actually happen, but not on purpose.
We took old broomsticks and launched them like javelins off clotheslines until one of the neighbor kids took one in the forehead. Never put anybody's eye out, though, even though our mothers always said we would.
On baseball, the first game I saw, Warren Spahn pitched in Milwaukee and we sat out behind this no name in right field and cheered for Eddie Mathews and Rico Carty. The no name was Henry Aaron. Really nice guy who would talk with the fans in the bleechers during breaks. |

Location: Cicero, NY | Ooo, now there's a topic. I used to make extra cash in the summers washing down the seats in the local stadium back when we were a Yankees farm club. Hated the Yanks (still do) but loved the guys in the minors. One guy was especially great to us until he got called up and then we cheered for him every day until his plane crashed.
