Then Brad shouldn't eavesdrop on Slipkid. Slipkid might get angry.

So if Mackin comes back to Moody and says "somewhere in the neighborhood of ... " I guess W-2 would be declared the winner.

There's about 3700 folks out there who have not ventured a guess yet. No obligation to enter and winner need not be present to win. And we won't report any winnings to the IRS, unless of course one our esteemed legal beagles on the board advise us otherwise, in which case we will invoke the desires of Rufio (of Hook fame) - "Kill the Lawyer!". :)

If it's not too late, I'd like to put in a guess as well...I would think about 900 sounds right for 1537s and a side guess of about 250 for 1538s.

Cheers,
Mike O

Can we do like Price Is Right and make a bid not to exceed the correct answer? If so, my bid is 1.

Just got off the phone with Nick. Hold on to your hats, but he estimated that they might have built as many as 1000-1500 1537's. He doesn't have any exact records, but he said it was a very popular guitar and everybody and his brother wanted one when they came out.

Oh, and somebody asked me what number I was guessing? I'd say, about 1000-1500....

But that number may also include the entire run at Moosup. The Elites were moved to New Harford in mid 1984.

Looking at the serial numbers for 1983 production we can guess that Ovation built just over 11,200 guitars in 1983, or about 936 per month. The 1537's first serial numbers were 301001 (I think that this is what I was told years ago). This would put production starting in about August 1983. If my 1537 was number 30214xx (I'm not trying to be coy, I can't remember the exact number and I'm too lazy to go look), then it was probably built in late September 1983. A WAG? Yeah, but it's probably the best I'm going to be able to do.

Ok then...with a vague answer like that I guess it's obvious my guess of 342 wins, right?

It was the only Elite built in 83-84, right? They numbered the Elites separately in 1984 and those serial numbers cover a range of about 750. So that leaves 250 to 750 (using Nick's 1000 to 1500 estimate) for 1983. I'll bet it's closer to the 250 if they didn't start production till August. I'm too lazy to look up my number, too, but it was one of the higher ones built in 83 on Dave's serial number list.

I looked them up. Moody's is 302415 and mine's 302447. BluesSailor's is in between ours at 433.

Ok, so I guessed wrong. It is my understanding that if you don't win the prize, you get a 1537 for the amount that was your bid. Where do I send my $360 for my 1537?

?? Paul must be referring to another Tony...

all I know is that I have # 301004 which is, from what Paul said, a pre-production.

I was told, by the factory, back in 93, that the first production 1537 was 301007. Don't know if that's right, but it was what I was told. Therefore, Tony's does look pre-production.
