Here's some more data to go with our wild ass guesses. In 84 they numbered the Elites separately and used a range of about 750. In 83 they made about 20 models that used the same serial number system as the 1537s and a total of about 11,000 guitars spread amont those 20 models. That's only 550 per model and we know they made lots more Balladeers, Custom Balladeers and Legends than 1537s. I bet most of us are way high, but Waskel will bust me if I change my guess.

It sounds better if you say that you got the number off the top of your head, rather than out your, oh, never mind.

451 is my guess.

Getting back to tequila though, Patron Anejo is nice but not two bottles. You need some variety. How about Corazon or my personal favorite, El Tesoro de Don Felipe?

Mark, how'd you come up with the 11,000 guitars built in 1983? And is that 11,000 USA built guitars?

It's interesting, because all this time, I thought my 1537 was number 1400 and change of the 1537's built. It wasn't 'til last week that I realized that that number was way off.

The person I'm talking with is Nick Mackin, the guy who came up with the 1537 concept. Unless you guys have gone back and read old posts, you may not be aware that Charlie was opposed to the 1537's. His attitude was that Ovation built carbon graphite top guitars in that configuration, not wood topped guitars. But the guitars were so good and sold well, so he had to relent.

When I got hold of Nick this morning, he really didn't know how many were built and wanted some time to think about it (or pull a WAG out of his ass). But there are no records on it (I checked with Keller), so Nick's guestimate is going to be the best we can do.

I find it satisfying that I was the first vocal member of this board to advocate the 1537's (Bill obviously had one first, Al's had them, and Kim had one at one time or another). Now there are 19 members who own them, and a couple own more than one. They are truly great guitars.

Gee Waskel...that looks complicated.

How about listing them by the order of the number guessed. I realise that would be more work....for you!....but we are worth it  .

No problem, Stephen. Are we going to allow duplicates, or should we make Jeff guess again as punishment for not reading Tony's guess 8 posts earlier?

ChatMan Says: 350
Just because he's a student o' psychology and psychlogizing this problem leads one to believe that the result will be a ficticious value. I expect the author of said value will pick an 'easy' number like 300 (my personal favorite but taken) 350 or 400.

Where do I collect my prize

Rickover to an underling who attempted to escape the blame by saying "we decided...":

"There are three person's who can use the term "we"; a Ruler of a Soveriegn Nation, a pregnent woman and a schizophrenic! Which, sir are you?".

Waskel, you got the tally?

It's interesting. I remember in this board's first year, it was really something to get 50 posts on one thread. Now it's up over 100 regularly..... My how we have grown....

I know what you mean. It really creeps Brad out when Slipkid talks like that.
