From time to time someone brings up the '97 Collector's subjuct. I miss that guitar so much! I sold it because I felt the small bowl made it not versatile enough. What I dream about is a similar guitar...12 fret slothead, narrow neck...but with a deep non-cutaway bowl. Do I just have to start a Uterus fund, or is there a past Ovation that fits the bill? I'm willing to be creative...maybe buy a wide-neck something cheap on ebay and have the factory put a new neck on it. Any thoughts? John <>{

What they said...

Seriously, If the house was on fire, I'd grab the U681T. It is the One guitar.

Agreed! The UT is "it". I just restrung mine after not playing it for a month or so and wondered why I have had the most wonderful guitar sitting in the closet (with 12 others) for the past month! I try to cycle my toys, but this one should never be put away!

Well John....

All the comments should make for a pretty easy decision about which way to go!

Not to rain on the Ovation parade, but look at a Martin 000-16SGT. It's a 12-fret slothead in a nice 000 sized body. Street price is around $1200. Dave

Dave, not sure about the Martin 000-16SGT so will discuss the slothead Martin D-15S that I recently got (pics in the gallery).

The Martin D-15S is an excellent player - both voice and playability. Maintains Martin's tradition. Very glad I traded for it. Unlike the 000-16SGT, the D-15S is mahogany. It is an acoustic.

Guess what? IMHO, this is no way in the league of the U681T. Besides an excellent pre-amp, the Adamas is just that much better. And, for the road warrior, it can take far more abuse.

000-16SGT is smaller body and made of spruce. I don't expect it would in the league of the U681 but it's considerable less money. Since John was talking about the '97 I assumed the price point was around $1000. If you've got the money and want an Ovation, then the U681 is hard to beat. Dave

The Ute is just THE guitar. But it doesn't have a narrow neck like bhb wants. It's wide and it's fat and it's frigging perfect.

The ONLY thing that could make it a better guitar is a cutaway. Maybe.

Schroeder, that would be the 1581 reissue (minus the slothead). ;) It also sounds incredible IMHO.

Part of what makes the U681 magic is that it is 12 fret clear. Dave

I must be in a minority here. I liked the U681 when we played it at the Texas jam... but there were other Adamii there that I liked better.

I think the U681 is a terrific guitar, but I've never had the desire to own one. I'm with Craig in that there are other Adamii that I would prefer to own.....personal preference..

Between the u681T

and the Q 597...

Now Id love to get them both...but cant at this time...(eventually)

Im a strong lead and rhythm player...

Im eyeing the one Al has...

Styll,

I have large hands and the 681 fits the bill perfectly. I haven't played a more comfortable guitar, but don't plan to get past that 12th fret easily. It's a stretch for me to reach the 14th fret. My 1885 and 1778 have the narrower necks and the cutaway makes that 19th fret easily within reach.

Having listened to your music, I think the U681 with add body and depth to your playing abilities.

It does have one hell of an acoustic boom, it's all I've been spending my time playing lately.

Tim

The Q597 is nothing than a CVT with the soundholes cut with a wobbly bit . . .

. . . get the U681T.
