I need a LOUD acoustic guitar. I currently play a supershallow celerity Ovation when plugged in and a Seagull solid top when acoustic. I now have a full time acoustic gig in a very loud environment (strolling singer on a train). I would really appreciate coments or advice from someone who has compared the deep bowl Ovations to the Adamas and to Rainsongs and other all carbon fiber makes in terms of loudness.

Thanks

I don't know about pure volume but if you had an LX you would be sufficiently armed.

There are belt clip practice amps out there as well!

Welcome!

The U681T Adamas is one of the loudest (and best sounding) guitars around. Plus, with the Adamas you would not be quite as concerned with the typical bangs and dings that will happen as you stroll around.

Great question. And a train gig? Talk about a captivated audience! I'm going to be interested in hearing the answer to this one.

Adamas U681t. Huge.

....what Stephent28 said plus it has a 12fret to body neck which makes it a bit easier to manuaver in a confined space...

and hope WeaserP is NEVER on the train your playing...you'll need a rolled up newspaper

I was gonna suggest a 1537, mine is very loud, but considering half the people who recommended the U681T have 1537s also... Never mind!

Might be easier to find a 1537 though. There were a bunch for sale the last couple months.

Different opinion here - Not exactly sure what the working conditions are like, but I'd be hesitant to TAKE my U681 on a train, let alone get it out and stroll around playing it. It's a 1 in a hundred collectable guitar and can't be replaced. I'd leave mine home safe in the case and take a deep bowl Balladeer or Legend for the train gig. It'll be plenty loud and I doubt many patrons will notice that it lacks the subtle harmonics and delicate mid-range of the U681. Dave

D'zilla has a point...

1537 is loud. Has a deeper woody tone than the Utes. I have a Lowden O25 (Jumbo) reeeeeeally great tone and great volume. A world class guitar by anyone's estimation. The 1537 has a significantly smaller body, but is every bit as loud as the Lowden.

As a wandering minstrel the 1537 is a heavy guitar (it's electronics are heavier than the other guitars, and the bowl is heavy as well), but it is a wonderful sounding and playing guitar. Real pretty too...

If you can find a nice old 1111 Balladeer or 1117 Legend (both deep bowl), you should be sufficiently armed.....any of the more exclusive models shouldn't be risked in that enviroment.

The older Balldeers and Legends that are pre-Kbar and pre-electronic are light as a feather.

Roger,
I disagree, I would happily take the Ute in that environment, especially, if it was the tool by which I was making my living.

Sounds like a job for a Balladeer.

You guys make it sound like if you buy a collectable or rare guitar it should never leave the living room or studio.

The purpose of a great sounding guitar is to take it out and play it! (Now true, I would not run around with an original slothead worth 10 grand) ....but if I was making my living playing guitar and wanted to sound my best and maybe have someone hear me and offer me other gigs, I would not hesitate to play a $1500-2000 guitar.

Hell, I use to drag big amps and expensive electrics to my gigs when I got paid because they played the best and sounded the best. Why should an acoustic that you make your living with be any different?

One of the LX features is that it is louder than non-LX Ovations. I find this to be true, in that they seem to be just as loud as a deep bowl, but lighter, and easier to hold.

Hi, I'm brand new here but as an owner of many Ovations (currently 5) over 30 years it's nice to find a place like this.

I'd agree an early Balladeer with a good top can be really loud and more importantly out project a lot of conventional flat tops. A deep bowl Adamas is great also. Anyway, I've got a '71 1111-4 that's in amazing condition that may fit your needs perfectly. I bought it some time ago from the original owner and had the Martin thinline removed and new compensated saddle and setup by my repair guy. Guess I should post it in the classifieds, I'd like to see it go to good use and at 35 years old, not be a beater.

Thanks for all of the input. One of the guys I work with on the Grand Canyon Railway, has an older deep bowl (I think it is a legend) and it is the best sounding guitar on the train, but not the loudest. One of the guys plays a resonator guitar and he is loudest but I don't want a resonator sound. Does anyone here have any experience with Rainsong, CA, or Emerald carbon fiber guitars?

Thanks
