Just wanted to let you know that I tried some silk and steel strings on 2 of my O's over the holidays, and I really like the feel and sound..
I put the D'addario j-40's on my elite std, and a set of labella lights on my cedar balladeer..
They have much lower tension than regular acoustic strings, which might also help with older, more fragile guitars with neck and bridge problems..
I really like the mellow sound and easy to finger tension...great for fingerstyle....one other thing, they greatly reduce finger squeaking, which i always suffered through with Adamas 1818's...
D'addario sells only 2 styles, j-40 for the six string and j-35 for the twelve...
the labellas are very nice too...
I bought both of these from stringsbymail.com
give them a shot, they are pretty cool....

Location: USA | I tried these...I liked them for awhile. I found they gave out too quick for my liking.
I need those "make a notch in your finger type strings" :)

Location: North Carolina | Played my brother's Martin OM-21 over the holidays which was strung with silk and steels. I liked them alot for the reasons you mentioned, Erniewan. I haven't tried them on my O yet but I will.

Location: Cherry Hill, NJ | I used to use the silk and steel strings many years ago for the same reasons. I've found that the "buzz" doesn't last as long and regular strings. |

Location: Scotland | We've just started stocking John Pearse Silk and Phosphor Bronze strings. The sound is somewhere between regluar bronze and silk and steel.

The exciting new SILKS sets mark a departure from orthodox acoustic string design. Formulated for the electric guitarist who doubles on acoustic, this set features a never before possible "playing ease" tension married with the warmth and projection for which our acoustic strings are famous. Our triple annealed mild steel is pulled through a draw plate to make an extra skinny core. Onto this is wound a silk multifilament which cushions a phospor bronze winding. This is NOT a silk and steel set. The natural edginess of the phosphor bronze winding is tempered by the silk cushion to produce a tone that studio players everywhere are likening to our 80/20 bronze sets after they have been played in. Steve Sheehan, lead guitarist with the Judds, asked us to make this set. Guitarists all over America are thanking him! |

| Typical - there were no strings listed on your site when I checked on Monday......
(Somebody in the UK needs to be a FULL line Rotosound stockist - I can't always get CL5 silk'n'steels, I can't at this very moment find anyone who carries the CL4 classical strings and I've got a friend who struggles to find one of their bass string sets. There is an opening here.) |
