Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Hi everyone. I’m brand new to the site, but not to guitars, and Ovations in particular. I started playing when I was 8 on a loaned Gibson ES-125 3/4 scale in 1959 (which I didn’t return for 13 years!). I played with surf bands in Southern California in the 1960's including jamming with some big name bands who appeared on shows that I was involved with at the time. I then departed from the band scene in college and decided to try acoustic, so I bought my first Ovation in 1971. It was blonde, no electrics, and a great guitar for my one-man ballad shows. It was stolen in 1981 so I replaced it with a Legend Limited 1651 (which I still own) that I then played through dual amps feeding into a large Yamaha stereo sound reinforcement system. Yummy! Since then, I’ve converted my private guitar studio into a cross between a low-grade vintage museum, a blues club, and a junk shop. It is completely over the top (over 200 signs, neon lights, banners, full drums, etc.) and I love it! I have 26 guitars, most of which I play occasionally, but some of which I play often through an assortment of amps, vintage and otherwise, beefed up with independent sound reinforcement systems. I have a few guitars that some might say come close to being collectible, but nothing that belongs behind glass or that would bring stratospheric replacement prices. The Ovation corner includes the 1651, an 1866 12-string, a Viper III, Breadwinner Limited, Preacher, and a Thunderhead. Add to this 8 Gibsons, 2 Gretschs, 5 Fenders, 2 Epiphones, 2 Guilds, and an unplayed Harmony Silhouette Bobcat Deluxe and you get the picture. Turn on all the lights, crank up a few amps, plug in, ignore the buzz and feedback, and let it rip! By the way, I’m probably one of the reasons why your guitars are going up in value. I don’t seem to find the deals appearing on your sale pages. Instead, I pay top dollar and don’t ever sell anything! In addition, one comment about Ovation the manufacturer. . . the volume knob cracked and fell off my 1651 about 10 years ago. I put up with it for another five years but finally got totally disgusted, so I wrote to Ovation and asked if they knew where I might locate a replacement. A week later, I received one in the mail compliments of Bill and the Gang. Try that at Fender or Gibson! I’ve been looking for a black factory pick guard for my ES-135 for years! Hope to hear from some of you who are as crazy about guitars and Ovation as me. |

I'm a newbie in the collector department and dropped out of my potential musical career after college. This board has helped reawaken the interest. |

......all of 'em good workers.
Yeah, the folks at Ovation have been very good to work with over the years. Last time was several years ago when I wanted to upgrade the preamp arrangement on the 12, time had passed the original by. So, I went with an OP 24 and rewired to mono and it came out great. I don't use the 12 much anymore but out of curiosity I ran it through my Bose PAS this morning and it was incredible. Huge power and volume with no feedback using the preset I use for the Country Artists. I'll have to find a way to use it more often. |

In addition to what T28 just said, try to find the thread on the map and add your location to the map. Then do a post on that thread so that it will get bumped to the top, so that us lazy computer illiterates can find it easily. |

Mark in Boise, let me know next time you're in Colorado on a depo. I, too, have a day job. MWoody, I've seen a few after-market pickguards available on-line, but I really want the factory black model, or an after-market black model. BruDev, sorry about the competitive bidding on eBay. I recognized some of the bidders. However, it sure looks like there are better deals through this site. I'm about out of room for too much more equipment. Then again, my office is a bit sparse . . . I'm not exactly sure how to post a picture, but will borrow a digital camera sometime and figure it out. Thanks for the replies. |
