This site is awesome, I am excited to be a member. I am thinking of buying a MERB1598 on e-bay but I can't tell if the ad is wrong or not. ??? Help please.... The add, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7379892909&... It lists a OP50 and I thought this guitar has a OP24+ C pre-amp. I am confused.... The pictures look like they are from the new 1598MEII. Is E-bay really a good source, or should I pay the extra $500 and buy at a dealer. I have wanted to buy this guitar for a long time but I am now pretty confused. Thankyou, Puppy

Check the for sale board here first though .And Im sure one of our fiends here will know where there is one (Al have you got one in????)

If this has the OP50, it isn't new, but it isn't that old. That was the most recent preamp before the Pro. It certainly looks like it could be NOS. Also, Welcome to the Board!!! Another Oregon member, looks like Oregon is catching up with SoCal!

I have a 1598MERB EXACTLY like this one, and it was built in the 2001 timeframe. I wouldn't go over $1500 or so to get this one(used ones sell regularly on eBay for $1000-$1200)....past that, you should go order a new one, IMHO. Roger

The guitar looks very new but I saw the error in the pic and ad. It made me wonder if the pics were really the actual item and/or someone has been sitting on this one for awhile.

I am seeing the MERB advertised new at some dealers but they are calling it the MEII so I am getting very confused. I had thought that the 1598MERB was no longer available and was being replaced by the new ME line and was not available in the RB color. This is an ad from a dealer http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/guitars/12-string-guitars/Ovation/1... I guess I should ask, what is the preferred preamp for this guitar? I do not play any gigs except for my two Border collies who haven't complained yet.

Yes, mine has no XLR. My preferred pre-amp would be the OP-Pro in the new model, or an OP-40 if you can find one. I'm not fond of this pre-amp, whatever it is. Roger

The price was too much bux for used, even in excellent condition. I got my 1598MERB off the bay about two months ago. In absolute cherry condition, she was just under a grand. I checked out the pix in the ebay listing you posted, and the guitar you were were looking at could pass for the twin sister of mine. By the way, these are absolutely awesome guitars. :D If you're serious about getting one, keep looking here or on the bay. Sooner or later you'll find one, and more than likely get it for a better price than the one you were just looking at. :)

I can't imagine the owner wanting to part with it, I think I would have choose something else to sell. I will definately keep looking. :) I have to say that I absolutely adore the Custom Legend LX that Dave has for sale.

Personally, I like it much better than the MERB1598, though it too does not have an XLR out. The sound of the MEII is very different, deeper and richer. I have met several people who have the original model and are extremely happy with it, but given a choice I'd get the MEII over the MERB any day. The immediate visual difference is that the MEII has one epaulet, not 2. Though they originally only offered the MEII in the natural gray/black burst, I've seen recent interviews where Melissa has an MEII with a Ruby burst, so if you like that color, it may be an option offered now. Good luck.
