I would like to know which one do you think is the best strings brand for my Ovation Legend 1867 (metallic strings), and what picks brand or model is the best one as well. What about an amplifier too? I use to play R&B with my Legend. Thanks in advance! Luis Mexico City

Some like thick pics and some like thin. I like medium picks, Dunlop Gator Grips, .96mm, (my hands sweat alot). I use D'Addario strings from 11s to 12s. As far as Amps there are alot of good ones. You have Fender, SWR, Create, Marshall, to name a few. Let your ears be the judge...... Have fun....

All 3 of those subject - strings, picks and amps - have been discussed ad nauseum on this board. Amp threads? Here\'s one . Here\'s another . String threads (pun intended)? This one\'s pretty good. Here\'s a seven-pager! Picks? Thick picks? Jellyfish picks? Cool picks? Big Stubby? Happy searching!

My daughter, though, really likes Martin Marquis 80/20 bronze strings. They have a brighter and more metallic sound. When amplified, I find the 80/20 a bit too metallic sounding, but the phosphor bronze sound very good. My suggestion is to buy several sets of light gauge strings and see what you think. Try some phosphor bronze and some 80/20. My preference in picks is thick but made out of soft plastic. Dunlop makes some that I like that are a semi-see-through tan. Fender are also good. Hard plastic picks are too noisy for me and make a lot of ticking sounds. So I like softer plastic but in a thick pick so it doesn't flex too much. Picks are cheap, so buy a variety and see what you prefer. The amp that we really like for general use (non-professional) is the Roland Cube 30. It has plenty of power, and it has a lot of different sounds and effects. It is fun and versatile, and not very expensive.

Other brands over coated strings, I havent tried these, they may very well be just as good. Price range is a big factor in amplifiers, as well as what you plan to use it for. Are you looking for an amp to use exclusively with your Ovation (and/or other acoustic guitars?) Picks are totally subjective. Different sizes and thicknesseses for different styles of playing. Maybe buy a few different sizes and decide which is most comfortable.

They have some of that non-skid sand-feel stuff on them so they're easy to hang onto. (the bad thing is that everyone seems to steal them from me) I like the light gauge ones because they respond better to hard and fast picking and strumming.(good reflex)
