I am considering a Custom Legend 6759, Legend LX 6756, Legend 1866, and Elite 1858. I currently have a 1998 Custom Legend 6 string which I love. Obviously, two of the above are mid-depth, and two are SS bowls. Generally, I like the SS feel/comfort while gigging. Any thoughts? Thanks

I wish it wasn't so because I love the ss bowl for the mere joy of playing. I was in a guitar center a while back and the unplugged sound of the Taylor 355 and the Martin dm12 were FAR superior to the 2 1866's they had. In fact, the cheaper 6751 with a mid bowl sounded much better to my ears than any of the 1866s I've played. Just one opinion. The one lx 12 string I played was good but not great. It was that orangy color that doesn't do the guitar justice. The price tag of the lx put it up against the Taylor (without electronics), and the Taylor would have won the unplugged battle fairly easily. By the way, I'm not usually a Taylor fan.

I used to swear by the super shallow bowls for gigging too, but it didn't take long to get used to the mid-depth bowl. I actually like them better now. It's also an extra incentive to not let my waistline get too out of contol. ;)

Let me know if your guitars need a sitter while you are gone, Waskel. Coming down to crunch time. I'm speaking on worship at church Sunday, I have to finish preparing the classes I'm doing in Uganda, prepare music to take with me and try to remember all the stuff I'll forget, most of which which I'll remember as I'm stowing my carry-on... which reminds me, I need to hit GC and get some spare strings (equatorial Africa is DEATH on strings, btw) and a small cheap tuner (taking the Balladeer, of course the only A/E I have without a tuner...) and, and, and... I don't know what else. Oh, wait. I have a week left. Wonder if there's anything on TV?

I'm going to asia for a while and it looks like I'll have to check it. (gulp). I'm going to try to at least gate check it. Good Luck in Africa. I saw some stuff on Uganda on TV. Be careful.

But I've promised my wife after the 1581, no more purchases other than a Viper electric and a Mando. Besides, absolutely no money right now, everything's tied up in this trip. An4340 (do you have a name? I feel silly calling you an4340!), it's going in the cargo hold. It's a 21 hour trip plus an 8 hour layover in London on the way there and 20 hour layover on the way back. I don't want to have to lug the guitar around with me, I'll already have my laptop. That's the reason I'm taking my Balladeer, it's a mid-80's 1861, slightly beat up, and I won't cry for a week if something bad happens. I took a new Celeb last time (left it there), and everything was fine. Keeping my fingers crossed this time. Oh, and I saw/heard that story too. It was a Hutu pretending to be a safari guide. We're not going on any safari's, at least this trip. We stick pretty close to Jinja. Thanks for the warning, though!
