Just pretend and imagine an Ovation guitar collection of SEVEN guitars, representing different types of instruments. What should they be to cover all the bases?
Here's the categories:
1. A traditional center hole, floral rosette acoustic. Like a Legend or Custom Legend, something like that. Bonus points if it's a shiny bowl.
2. A multihole wood topper. Elite, Custom Elite, etc. Bonus points for 1537.
3. A wide neck steel string, Folklore type guitar with slotted headstock. Preferably 12-frets. Kudos for Josh Whites and FD14's.
4. A textured top Adamas. Slothead takes the cake, but big props to Adamas I and U681 as well.
5. An Ovation 12-string. Mixed preferences here, Adamas textured tops and slothead 12-fretters are the choice.
6. An Ovation nylon. Everybody's got to have a nylon even if it's never played (like mine). Country Artist neck widths preferred. Must be A/E.
7. Something personal, unusual or rare. Maybe a B-winner, a customized Viper, hurricane or Thunderhead, a mandolin, ukulele, longneck, parlor, contour bowl, collecters series, double neck, etc.

Location: Boise, Idaho | I just spent an hour last night on my Classic, just trying to play Classical Gas. It seemed almost like a perfect guitar, except it's tough to do barre chords on the wide flat, neck.
I sort of have your bases covered, except for an Adamas. I think my last upgrade will be the 12 string. I rarely play anything for 12 string and I'm not good enough to fingerpick with one. The Applause actually sounds pretty good. |

OK, here are my choices from what I have in the stable.
1) 1719 30th anniversary custom legend
2) Both 1537 and 1547 (Yoohoo....lucky me!)
3) FD-14
4) U681T
5) Adamas 1688 12 string (Big Blue 2)
6) Nothing yet....been looking at the 1773LX
7) Breadwinner Limited & Deacon 12 string
Dave, based on your criteria, I am pretty damn lucky to have 6 of the 7 categories filled with some of Ovations finest! |

None of those, it would have to be that center hole Adamas from a few years back.

Definately the black 1537 tops my list.

Two Adamas II's & U681T, done.

Are there any Adamas Nylons? otherwise, nope...

Let's see, 3 out of 7, looks like lots of room for GAS.

Avarice/Greed (5)
Generosity This is about more than money. Generosity means letting others get the credit or praise. It is giving without having expectations of the other person. Greed wants to get its "fair share" or a bit more.
Envy (2)
Love "Love is patient, love is kind…" Love actively seeks the good of others for their sake. Envy resents the good others receive or even might receive. Envy is almost indistinguishable from pride at times.
Wrath/Anger (3)
Kindness Kindness means taking the tender approach, with patience and compassion. Anger is often our first reaction to the problems of others. Impatience with the faults of others is related to this.
Lust (7)
Self control Self control and self mastery prevent pleasure from killing the soul by suffocation. Legitimate pleasures are controlled in the same way an athlete's muscles are: for maximum efficiency without damage. Lust is the self-destructive drive for pleasure out of proportion to its worth. Sex, power, or image can be used well, but they tend to go out of control.
Gluttony (6)
Faith and Temperance Temperance accepts the natural limits of pleasures and preserves this natural balance. This does not pertain only to food, but to entertainment and other legitimate goods, and even the company of others.
Sloth (4)
Zeal Zeal is the energetic response of the heart to God's commands. The other sins work together to deaden the spiritual senses so we first become slow to respond to God and then drift completely into the sleep of complacency.
Personally I am waiting for the Ovation sloth or Avarice model |

There are a couple of 1113s on ebay, pretty cheap. They don't meet Dave's criteria of narrower neck or A/E, but he's not right all the time. |

5. One or two s/n's away from Moody's BigBlue.
6. While a CountryArtist seems the logical choice, I've been playing this old Tak classical as of late and I'm starting to like the classical neck, so maybe an O Classical A/E (just to keep things "interesting" . . )

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | I'm missing 3, 4 and 6......would like a Folklore, but not at the expense of something else (she-who-must-be-obeyed has degreed NINE as my limit for guitars). Textured-top Adamas, I'm too cheap to pony up what it would take for one.
Nylon-string...not gonna happen. I won't play one, and if I'm not playing it, I'm not owning it.

Might be interesting to compare the spruce tops to the cedar, but not interesting enough to risk getting in more trouble with my wife. I'd buy one for my daughter, but her hands aren't big enough. Besides my wife will only fall for that excuse so many times. |

7.Have thought about a Celeb Doubleneck. Could actually us it. Rarest thing I have is a Modulus Graphite Flight 4 (prototype).Story I heard was there were only 6 made. After they went into production there were supposidly only 40-50 made. Who knows?

I do agree that each portfolio needs diversification and a sense of passion! |

Of course, I presume the Mothership would make something close enough for the right pile of dinero....
