Currently in my teenage wallet I have around $300...

I found myself thinking multiple ways how to spend it...I could start a checking account, or a savings account...or save it for something useful...

But then I used that acronym I learned long ago..
WWOFCD

Would Would the Ovation Fan Club Do?
Well, they'd get a good deal and buy another guitar!

So, here's the situation:
I have a friend selling an American 91 Strat (when Fender used lace sensor pickups) for around $270 in great condition.
But then, I've always wanted an Ibanez electric sometime...and they sell great guitars for a great price.
But then I thought of you guys, and how I've always wanted an Ovation Acoustic, and how I always said I'd get one. Seeing as I have some money to spend, I was thinking maybe it was time to pick up an Ovation.

I was wondering what you guys thought about that Strat, should I spring on it or maybe get an Ovation?

For an Ovation, I'd want an American, I don't want to get a Korean and then want to upgrade to an American eventually. If only another 68' Deluxe Balladeer was around for $300. But I also like the multi-soundholes like an Elite, but I know I don't have the cash for an Elite.

Suggestions? Advice?

You might be a couple of bucks shy when it's over but I would at least consider this .

My first reccomendation would be for a viper but I see you already have one. How is it modified? I have a recent addition that is a Viper with Duncan Designed HB103's (SH06) and I am learning to apprecite it's sound! Two Vipers might not be a bad thing!

I would then focus on getting an Elite T. They range in $500-$650 on Fleabay but provide a lot of "Thump" for the money!

The bridge single coil pickup has been removed. I then used a jigsaw to fit in a Dimarzio Super Distortion humbucker.

For now, I'll remember the names and whatnot, but I can't buy anything on ebay just now, I need to make sure I can fork over the money for shipping and whatnot.

SP,
If you are interested, come up with parts or pieces and I'll toss a "conglomerated" Viper together for you.

This one is a neck from Stephen28, body/pups/bridge/tuners from ebay, pots from Stewmac and home made neck plate and bolts.

I'm really liking it.

Anybody have any Donor parts?

If you want an Ovation Acoustic, get an Ovation Acoustic. You should be able to come up with a Balladeer or even a Custom Balladeer for $300. There appears to be a wide range in your "wants", which I can appreciate. Do you really know what you want, or is the $300 burning a hole in your pocket? When I was your age, I made a few dumb motorcycle purchases because I let my funds dictate what I wanted.
You already have a nice acoustic, so if you want something different, hold out for an Elite. If you want something now, try to find a Balladeer, or spring for Dave's on ebay.

Hmm - it seems that the strat wouldn't be a bad purchase. A '91 American strat is hard to pass up and you know you want an Elite... So take the Strat for $270, wipe it down - put it up ebay for $750 and then go and buy yourself a nice American built O.

Looking on eBay at completed auctions . . . like you I am partial to the epaulets. Elites can be found for as little as $400-500 if you're careful. So maybe you can beg/borrow/steal another $100 or so? The CS257, which I happen to like, is within your range ($250-350) but it is Korean, and you'll probably want to upgrade it someday (as will I).

All that having been said, an American Strat is a killer deal for under $300. If you dont want it give him my number!

If you want a Celebrity Deluxe, try for a CS247. It's a mid bowl and sounds better unplugged. You can get one with a case for under $300, or at least I just did. It's the one in my gallery that I gave my daughter for Christmas.
She and I would still prefer a Balladeer, but it's tougher to get one of those in good shape for $300.

Sorry, but the voice of reason steps in at this point.

You are a teenager? You have a slew of highly desirable guitars? Someday you will want to get married, buy a car, have a house.

PUT IT IN THE BANK QUICK...BEFORE THEY GET TO YOU. SAAAAVVVEEEE NOW!!!!

Really, by working on saving today, by the time you are an old (four letter reference to digestive methane gass) like me, you can buy whatever you want and have the time to enjoy it. Of course, after you condition yourself to trying to save...then you will be too tight to buy whatever you want. Oh it is a sad, sad world.

C'mon, Jeff. You're not too old to remember when you were a teenager. why throw reason into the mix? The spend more on video games than we did on cars. Spend more on car stereos than they do on cars. If they go to college they do it on borrowed money and then cry to guys like me about how they need this huge starting salary because they are so far in debt.
Sorry for the rant, Stephen, but I said I was old. That entitles me to be a crotchety old fart.
