I know that the only effective treatment for G.A.S. is an acquisition, but I need some advice.

My wife (angel that she is) gave me a lovely 1758 for Christmas, and it is just aching to be reunited with one of its siblings. Here's one that I've been watching:

Potential G.A.S. Relief

Opening is $399 and no bids in 6 days, seller's got 100% positive feedback, used (I think I'm glad, cause maybe it means it is a player), and one finish crack. I can't find any comps on ebay to see what they have been closing at, but to my naieve mind, $399 doesn't sound too bad. Am I being stupid, or missing something here. Advice please ... thanks friends.

From what I've read, $399 is a great deal on an Elite...as they normally go for around $500.

ooooh, that's pretty. I say go for it. I dought that it'll go for 399 but I also think 695 is a little high for bin. Good luck. Got my fingers crossed for you.

Ended with no bidders. Too bad, but I don't "need" another Elite.

Good buy. I thought I had enough Elites. You've already got 4.

Robbie,

Congrats, I was tempted on that 1718 myself. I was watching to see how the bidding would go, did not really know much about them except what's on the Ovation website. They sure look similar to a 1537, except OP24 and a AA top and apparently a lot less $$$. Let us know how it sounds, I've got to believe its pretty nice.

Hope it works out,
Mike O

Yeah, I know. It's just that the 1758 sure will be happy to have a 1718 in the same stable. Not to mention, you can get some REALLY fine older instruments really inexpensively. Now that I'm old, I guess I appreciate (and want to preserve, maybe) some of the older, well made classics. That 1758 is a wonderful instrument and I'm hoping that the 1718 will be too. Don't know what my aversion to roundholes is all about ... :(

The really good thing about buying pre-owned pieces on ebay is that if you are careful when you buy it, you can usually turn it over later and not lose too much -- sometimes even make a few dollars. If I had to prune the stable now, I might sell the 1868LX, then again ... :D
