I've just bought a sunburst Viper solid body with the serial E8859. Is it possible to date the guitar from that number? Any response would be appreciated.

Come on Jeff, this is far too easy. DATE a Viper? Hell, I MARRIED her. And yes after 25 years ANY response would be apprecieted.

Archie, I think you can find the date by looking up the serial number in the Reference section at the left of the page. Say "Hi" to Edith for me.

I wish they had called the Vipers "Hardbodies." I've never dated one of those.

Date a viper if you want to... but beware dating a boa. Most find it a tad constricting.

Only from too much fretting, I suspect.

Thanks for posting, guys. Guess I could have worded the thread differently. Entertaining, nonetheless. According to the reference section, my guitar was manufactured sometime between 1973 and 1975. Earlier than I thought. Guy I bought it from said it was '79/'80. Thanks again.
