Location: Scotland | The Bose guys have posted a pic of the G-band booth on their user forum, showing Michael's (Playadamas) Bose L1 system and his book Viper, both of which he graciously loaned us for the duration.

They say: "I first noticed this when I stumbled across the “Woodies G-band” booth. You can see the system (barely) to the right of their banner. I was walking down the show when I heard this great sounding guitar coming from down the aisle. It was clear and clean and seemed to cut through the din of the show"
Can't let the sound system take all the credit. As the saying goes, you can't polish a turd. The fact that there was a KILLER guitar plugged into the L1 was a major factor in why it sounded so good. But, the superb omni-directional performance of the L1 probably accounts for why we got so much grief from the NAMM noise police. Despite the fact that I was at a level where I could easily talk to booth visitors over my playing without having to raise my voice, they were constantly asking us to turn down. |

Paul is right, you could hear him play from an aisle away, yet clearly hear his description of the product through the demo.
And the assistance of a good friend. Great promo for Ovation and Boise, thanks to Michael. Heard a couple of guys talking about how good the Ovation (Viper) looked and sounded as they walked away. |

Location: Scotland | Thanks Piers, The guitar I used on the NAMM booth was Michael Wong's 30th Anniversary "Book" Viper. (Model EA68-Ltd?) I use pretty heavy strings, but because I was going to be playing for 4 days, for almost 7 hours a day I restrung with extra lights (John Pearse Strings, kindly donated by Mary Faith at Breezy Ridge, great strings) Despite the drop in gauge the Viper still sounded huge. You can EQ in as much low end as you'd ever need and it just refuses to feedback.
The guitar on the video is my own Adamas SMT. I wanted to use microphones rather than the pickup and that guitar records well. We wanted to keep the mikes out of shot, so there's a coincident pair of Beyer Dynamic small diaphragm condensers a few inches above my head, pointing down towards the guitar. Incidentaly, that guitar is for sale.
The NAMM show cleaned out almost all the current stock, The G-bands should be available again by the end of the month. RUMC may have a few G-band 1's in the next few days. I'll let you know. |
