So his wife Linda decided to give Paul a special Ovation for a Christmas present. She wanted the Legend model but asked if we could "dress it up" for Paul. We did. The back of the peghead had this engraving: "Love from Linda."

The 1618-1 GC 12-string reissue is listed as $2,699, 1627-4 is $2,599, 2006 Collectors is $2,829 with VIP-5, one-piece Cedro neck, GS bowl). This does have the pics and specs. the 9 1/4" x 9 1/4" 40th Anniversary booklet is KCG-677 and is a well done promo piece, not a current catalog.

The Josh White looks sweet!!!! I'd be interested in the GC 12-string, but I have an original exactly like in the picture..... Roger

Makes you wonder if they will really be produced. Both are very nice guitars.

Is that McCartney going to be produced and sold? I'd rather have a burst, but being a Beatles fan and all...

I thought it was said then by someone (W-2, maybe) that the Custom Legend was already in production when Paul got his, thereby nullifying the notion of any direct McCartney influence behind this model. However, here we see in print--and straight out of New Hartford--that it was Linda's request for a "special" Ovation for Paul that led to the creation of the CL. If this is true, I find it very cool on a couple of levels. So, according to this, Linda McCartney wanting to give Paul a "special" Ovation was the genesis of the Custom Legend? If that's so, IMHO, she deserves to occupy a very hallowed place in Ovation lore! First, I think this makes for a much stronger Beatles connection to Ovations than Lennon's cursory use of a 1651. Secondly, and on a more personal note, I find it deliciously ironic that the very first-ever CL may have been a lefty! ;)
