I have not played my Breadwinner in quite a long time. The words of some fellow OFC members, "Use it or move it!" come to mind. A Breadwinner not quite as nice as mine once sold for $1200 on e-bay. But that don't mean I could get that. When I think about the 8 to 9 hundred I could get for it, sentimental value says for that I would rather keep it. But....I don't play it. So I'm back to the catch-22 loop of logic.
BrianT and I, throwing caution to the wind, are working on an unplugged version of Cream's "White Room". At the same time I am working on the Toby Keith song, "I Ain't as Good as I Once Was." A little to eclectic??
Willie Nelson"s "You Were Always on My Mind" seems to be wanting a little attention also.
I may not pick up the Breadwinner, but my old Balladeer is not neglected. Especially since it got a little go-over at the Mothership.
I'm looking forward to the next OFC tour. I think this one will be very different from the ones before. Looking forward to the OFC disc, too.
OT:...I go round and round with a guy at work. Please help me out on this. Which phrase is correct. My ill-logical deskmate would say..."If you think the sky is green, you have another THING coming".
I contend that..."If you think the sky is green, you have another THINK coming."

I have heard it both ways, and I think that both ways make sense....just in a different context. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Brad, keep the Breadwinner. I disposed of my Epi Les Paul because I wasn't playing it; now the wheel has come around again, and I am thinking of buying another electric, because I miss playing one. Probably gonna be a Strat this time, though.
And to think (thing?) I thought this thread was going to be about the Who.....

Location: SE Michigan | As far as the expression goes, I always thought it was "you've got another thing coming". Saying you've got another think coming" just sounds wrong to me.
And as far as the Breadwinner goes, I say, as long as you have all the guitars you WANT, and enough money to go around, fine keep it. BUT if you are gassin for some new guitar (and can't afford it), and the Breadwinner is just gathering dust, then off to Ebay with it.
Guitars are tools and money is a resource, it's a shame to waste either. Life is too short. :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: |

I once had a Viper that I sent out West, a Hamer that went East and a Steinberger that went South, a Yamaha Motif8 that went to a church in Royal Oak, a 1980 Camaro Berlinetta that I bought from the original owner (a friend of mine) in 'showroom' condition for $1500 (he was in a bind) and flipped for ~$100 profit (and thought I was something), a (restored, except for the exhaust, which was open headers when I got it) '64 Impala SS (also from a friend, several years predating the Berlinetta, white with a mint, original blue vinyl interior and the original machine turned dash/console inserts, two speed Powerslide, etc) that I flipped for a Ford Fiesta (gold, five speed, and I was glad because of the gas mileage the Impala wasn't getting). Then there was...see the pattern? ;)

The correct answer is 'You Have Another Think Coming.' It doesn't make any sense to say, 'If you think you'll not miss the Breadwinner, you have another thing coming.' On the other hand, replace that thing with think and it's clear as a bell. I think.

EDIT: And a palm tree uke. Did I mention the Impala was a 409? G-d I was stewpeed when I was younger. :( Actually, I think I still might be. :eek:
EDIT II: Roland Alpha Juno II, as new, went to a 'P&W' keyboardist in Florida for pennies on the dollar. Then all of a sudden the value went up; seems they make some awesome subsonic bass (this is true). :rolleyes: |

As nice as the OFC Adamas will be, I don't think it's an even swap.

It's often harder to get past the IDEA that you no longer have it more than not actually having it.
If something has true sentimental value, it's unlikely you would even consider the idea of selling it.
...For example; your dad's wristwatch, that he asked his buddy to smuggle out of a prision camp in his ass because, it was his, your father's, last wish, that you, the son he'd never met, have it...This is something you would never consider selling but,
a guitar that sits around never getting played? Just take a picture and blow up full size and put it in the same corner the guitar was... |

Some keep sentimental items for no other reason and are quite satisfied, while others flip them in and out with no regard for that "schmaltzy, sentimental stuff". Keep it if you think you should or get rid of it for something new and don't look back. Either way, don't sweat the small stuff...
Here's a thought...send it here for a while and see how you feel about it. If you're ok with that, I'll just keep it for you. If you need it back, we'll see. You may just need more time - I'd have to burn that bridge when we got there but, either way, it'd be in your best interest. Think about it...
And tell your office mate that it's a stupid saying anyway. |
