Joined: December 2002 Posts: 939 Location: Fort Worth, Texas | The 2nd annual Old Magnolia Town Music Weekend is scheduled for March 31st-April 2nd at Old Magnolia Town near Palestine, Texas. Last year we had the 1st annual and we combined an Ovation Fan Club Texas and region get together with a bunch of other friends from Kerrville Folk Festival and a little band from Fort Worth and a bunch of family, etc. My cousins own Old Magnolia Town, it's some property with some "old west" buildings on it, including a kitchen, cafe space, jail, saloon (with pool table) and music hall. There's plenty of room for tents, bathrooms with showers, and hotel rooms right down the road in Palestine. They had a blast with all the home grown music going on all weekend! Also last year we were lucky to have Mike Stevens of Kaman out with a bunch of Ovations to try out. The calendar features the OFC gang and guitars in July, that's Michelle (Mike's girlfriend) playing the "Hot Wheels" model! Hope to hear from him to see if he can make it again. Hizzoner has an album of photos in the photo galleries in the OFC member section from last year to check out. If your interested e-mail me and I'll keep you informed. And I'll make some general announcements right here. Thanks Paul

It's flexible, like last year we may have schedulded "open mic" for Saturday evening and just general pickin' and grinnin' the rest of the time....

You sounded great. Nice way to kill a couple of hours. BTW, do you have any info on hotel/motels in Palestine for those of our families/friends who want something softer than a tent?

Another plug to all the Texas and nearby members. This was a great event last year. I had a blast (you can probably tell since I am posting so much in this thread.) I know we have quite a few new members in the area. This is a must! So far, as far as I know, Paul, Craig and I from the OFC are going. Anyone else? Fred, you coming this year?

My wife and I used to go to Beautiful Cambria by the sea two times a year. Once in March for our anniversary, and again in October for her Birthday. I think once we get more financialy secure, we'll be doing Texas in the spring every year. Have fun!!

Joined: December 2004 Posts: 1116 Location: Keller, TX | Paul, Was just looking to make a hotel reservation for Palestine for the night of March 31st. Super8, Best Western, HolidayInn Express are all full for that night. Any other ideas on lodging for attendees? Secondly, I thought I would post directions for anyone coming. This is cut and pasted from last year's thread: Here's some precise directions to Old Magnolia Town. From Palestine: Take Highway 79 or Highway 84 (they merge together) south. Old Magnolia Town is 3.6 miles from the Palestine city limits, just outside Tucker. At the junction of 79 and FM 645 are flashing yellow lights, OMT is 1.6 miles from here. You'll turn right into the property. The mailbox is painted like a Texas Flag. If you get to Long Lake, you went to far. From Fort Worth and points west: Take Highway 287 South from Fort Worth. At Ennis take Interstate 45 south. At Corsicana take 287 South, Palestine exit. If you are heading straight to Old Magnolia Town you can take FM 645 through Tennessee Colony. FM 645 ends at Highway 79, turn right. Old Magnolia Town is 1.6 miles on the right. Mailbox is painted like a Texas flag. If you are heading to hotels, etc. in Palestine keep going on 287 and see directions from Palestine above. From Dallas and points north: Take Interstate 45 south to Corsicana. If you are heading to hotels, etc. in Palestine keep going on 287 (instead of taking FM 645) and see directions from Palestine above. From Austin and points south: Take Interstate 35 to Round Rock. Take Highway 79 north. Old Magnolia town will be on the left a few miles outside Long Lake. Mailbox is painted like a Texas flag. If you get to Tucker you went to far. If you are heading to hotels, etc. in Palestine keep going on 79 and see directions from Palestine above. If you8 from points east of Palestine, just make it to Palestine and follow the directions from there!!
