 What the heck happened to this one? Sounds like a guitar to be sent in to the Mother ship. Guitar abuse is SO sad. :( Why would the original owner, not have sent it in under the warranty?

That's DaveO's guitar. Has been advertised here in the past. Dave said the bridge pulled off and the ensuing slingshoot effect did the soundboard damage. Oversized bridge put on to hide minimal chipping when bridge released.

I looked at it and had a deep soul to soul with myself before passing last summer. SWMBO said why buy one like that, why not wait until a clean example comes along? I took that as permission to buy when I find a nice one.

Still waiting!

I thought the story sounded awfully familiar when I read it in the listing.

That would be I :D

I'm suffering GAS, been playing the Ute all weekend...got slothead fever really bad...I sure don't want to drag the Ute around in the salty environment. We stop at a lot of uninhabited islands in the south Pacific, do a little cookout, burned some burgers, kill our voices...figured the FD-14 would make a good boat guitar... :o

Tim,Tim ,Tim...you have much to learn...

...The Cedar top is very good in the water but the Ute would be a more durable emergency paddle.

Tim,

Take the U681T. This is a guitar that's meant to be taken everywhere and played. The cedar top on the FD-14 will suffer more from the environment than any Adamas.

Actually, corrosion is the bigger factor on the boat. The air conditioning keeps the humidity under control most of the time. My Alvarez has been underway since 1997 and never had the first ounce of trouble with the wood body warping or finish cracking. The machine heads are the problem, as well as the pre-amp connections and 1/4 plug.

Jeff...paddle, haha, I get it ;)

I heard some of the same guitar abuse talk when I posted the FD-14 on here last time. I would venture a guess that there are many Ovations owned on this list that are in a lot worse shape, I could go the way of many other sellers and forget to mention a ding or two but I don't deal that way. This guitar wasn't abused ,the bridge came off!!! Anyone ever have that happen before.

Dave, I have been aching to buy your guitar since you first brought it to our attention. If I wasn't sure that Maryanne would kill me in my sleep, I would make sure I won this auction. Beautiful guitar deserving of a good home in the OFC. John <>{

Dave,

Pokeypup wasn't a member here last summer so he is unaware of the discussion that followed the 'Abuse Talk'. He is afterall only a pup. ;)

To all, Dave and I traded several emails while I was making up my mind. The pics he sent me show a very beautiful guitar with VERY minor damage. The new bridge is only slightly oversized from what I could see. Whoever ends up with this one won't be sorry.

I am sorry about my wording and the 'a' word. I really love this guitar. I covet them everyday so can you chalk it up as an emotional outburst?

Thanks, Dee

If you think that the FD-14 was abused you should see the 1950 D-28 that I play. Replaced bridge, broken off peghead, no finish left on the top it looks like it was towed behind a car cross country and I bought it looking like that. It has real character and I can't tell you how many people have asked if I'd sell it. I've had it 15 years so far and haven't got tired of it yet.

DaveO,

I know just what you mean. Two of my dearest guitars have been handled with care but 20 years later they show their age. I have finish cracks and bumps from life but I love them dearly. I am trying to apologize, if I offended you in any way, I am sorry.

DaveO,

The FD-14 arrived today safe & sound. The boys did a great job boxing it up and I thank you for the extra's :)

Your right, the few knicks are not that bad or that noticable beneath the strings. The sound is really nice and warm. I am really grooving on these wide neck roundbacks.

Thank you my friend,
Aloha_Tim

Tim,

Glad you're happy with your FD14. These are great guitars and I suspected that DaveO's was in better shape than people believed. Post some pics when the site allows......
