Here's a real hoot. Go look at eBay's "Buyers Guides" for acoustic and acoustic/electric guitars. This is supposed to be where they "educate" buyers on what to look for.

Acoustic Guitars.
Look for such brands as Fender, Gibson, Martin and Taylor. They give defined search links to search for Guild, Gibson, Larrivee, Collings, Taylor, Martin and Santa Cruz. Not a sniff of Ovation mentioned anywhere.

Acoustic/Electric Guitars.
Ply tops are for plugged in use. Solid tops can be used for plugged in or acoustic. Look for such brands as Fender, Epiphone, Takamine, Washburn, Ovation, Taylor and Yamaha. They say for more advanced players look for Jay Turser, Fender, Epiphone, Takamine, Gibson and Washburn. They give defined search links for Fender, Ovation, archtop and solid top.

VERY EDUCATIONAL !!!

Jay Turser for more advanced players? Interesting. I admit, I have played some decent JT guitars; they certainly aren't any worse than any of the other Pacific Rim/Chinois built stuff. But...

I was just browsing for more overpriced wooden box guitars and noticed a button that said "Guitar Buyers Guide". Dave

PS - Must be nice to have time to make 6000+ posts on the OFC.

Paying an idiot an idiot's wage must be one of the reasons eBay is so profitable, assuming you get what you pay for. I haven't done the research, but are all of these brands mentioned sold by Guitar Center? Maybe GC secretly owns eBay, too.

No, feeBay and PayPal are owned by the US Government. The exorbitant and ubiquitous fees are their way of taxing the underground economy.

EDIT: Perhaps 'owned by the government' is too strong. How about 'is a CIA front?' ;)

Never really followed the Ebay info. Trial and error and watching the more successful auctions.

Standing O is a good model for that.
