What I want to know is, how could a guitar that was built in the mid-80s be played on a TV show from 1969-75? An-awuna-an-atwoa...

It says he played it as guest host of the Lawrence Welk "wrap around" shows, which I believe are shows where a guest host emcee's the showing of older, recorded episodes, so he could have played it hosting a wrap around show that aired much later than when the actual Lawrence Welk show was on TV.

There is a Lawrence Welk Theater somethere that still does live shows.
I don't know why I happen to know that and it bothers me a bit that I do.

If it only had Lawrence Welk's signature now that would be something!

It's in Escondido, CA, and a part of a retirement community called the Lawrence Welk Resort. When it was built, it was pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Not any more.

As to the guitar, it's very likely legit. The highlight shows are still shown on PBS from time to time, at least out here, and are hosted by the stars of the original show. My grandparents knew Welk from his early days in the Dakotas, and my grandmother was a big fan of the TV show. I would watch with her from time to time, and I remember Clay Hart... he was one of the younger cast members and would play Glen Campbell and other "modern" C/W tunes.

Interesting that this thread popped up. I'm not a big fan of the highlight shows personally, but I do get a bit nostalgic when I stumble across them. Welk's closing theme song is guaranteed to make me think of my grandmother, and bring a smile. :)

You guys are cracking me up. Slipkid! I saw that show, surfing the channels one day too. I tried to repress the memory but somehow it got in.

That guy looks like someone who would have appeared on Lawrence Welk. Not meant as an insult.

To clarify, I think it's legit too. I didn't start this thread to cast aspersions on the seller, or Clay Hart for that matter.

I just thought it was kinda funny that the seller would use a Lawrence Welk connection--of all people--to generate interest in a guitar. It's also representitive of the typical kind of mis-information you see in Ebay listings (referring to the dates), intentional or otherwise. The seller has a 100% feedback rating. You don't get that by intentionally using misleading or inacurate information in your descriptions.
