As most regulars here know, I am an unapologetic fan of Elixir nanowebs on my acoustic six strings. They play great...last a long, long time and sound terrific to boot...

When recently buying strings for Seesquare's former Pacemaker, a 12 string set of Nanowebs were not in stock at the local store so...

I bought Polywebs for the first time and strung it up.

Generally, my first impression..... I don't like the sound of these strings. They sound slightly dull with my oridinary strumming and picking style.

I have noticed, if I really soften my attack (too funny to apply that term to myself) and use just the tip of the "sharp" end of the pick while, slightly turning the back edge of the pick to "8 o'clock" position (if your nose is 12 0'clock and pick is right hand), the tone sharpens and brightens such that it is much more pleasant to the ear.

My default pick position is to hold the pick along the long side and strum/pick strings with the broad corner of the pick. I hold it very close to the egde so the tips of my fingers very lightly brush the strings as I pick/strum. This imparts a soft harmonic quality on the nanowebs that the polywebs just don't like. Or maybe it's the 12string that doesn't like it...

The more accomplished players here already know about pick angle on attack and all its sublties, so I throw this one out there to the schleps like me, who might not think so readily about differing attack angle with different strings, songs or instruments...

On a related note, I find an "overhead attack" is best when dealing with a banjo. ;)

(Sorry, Tim)

And remember that Al di Meola, John McLaughlin and Tracy Lords all recommend starting on an upstroke.

And if you played properly with your fingers none of this sh*t would apply.

I resent the implication that I would indulge in that kind of thing with cliff and an unknown woman.

Please supply a pic and price list of the woman you have in mind. I can go to $17.

And I don't give discount. That's coming out of cliff's end.

I don't even want to see Cliff's end, never mind anything coming out of it.
